Fancy Bagels
Fancy Bagels is a popular spot for bagel lovers looking for fresh, authentic bagels with creative toppings and spreads. The bagels are often praised for their perfect texture—chewy on the inside with a slightly crisp crust. The menu includes classic options like plain and everything bagels, as well as inventive combos with quality ingredients. Customers appreciate the friendly service and quick preparation, making it a great choice for breakfast or a casual snack. A must-visit for anyone craving a satisfying, well-made bagel.
First off, they don’t answer their phone so forget about placing a phone in order. No, they weren’t busy, it was 1pm when I attempted & there was no one in the store when I walked in. Customer service is non-existent, everyone at this location seems to hate their job. Also, a bagel with cream cheese is now $6.17 - per the menu, cream cheese is now $5 which is incredibly insulting considering I’m not sure where the $5 worth of cream cheese is but it is definitely not on my bagel. I’m glad the bagel was semi warm but it being toasted as I had ordered would have been nice. I’ve been a customer for a long time but this recent visit was my last straw and I have a feeling I am not the only one.
Major issues with this staff. The manager Rosie is here and allowing the girls to walk from the back to the front of the store with gloves on while preparing our sandwiches. She literally allows the girls to not tie their hair back so the hair is flowing over the bagels and salad mix on the counter. Also allowing them to eat on the floor right where the bagels are sitting in the case she was eating bacon. Vegetarians like myself do not want to see bacon next to my bagel or to say the least you are cooking other people's food that you just ate next to. They should be changing their gloves way more often and we watched the one making our food take the slab of frozen meat right from the cooler and place it on the grill then with the same gloves on go directly to the fridge under the counter and take out other ingredients for our hot sandwiches. All of this without changing gloves one time is horrendous. Also pulling up her sleeve. Other than all of this stuff about proper food handling and sanitary issues the health inspector would have a field day with the food is good. The prices are awesome for the food portions you get. Plus no bathroom .. thought CT law states where there is prepared food there has to be a public restroom for customers. But who knows. Great food tastes great just needs to have better service and understanding of public health.
I never leave reviews but when u have the best bagel in the state u gotta tell people! I’ve been a chef for 20yrs and I’m a big guy who loves food but is particular. We drove an hour to get here and I loved everything about this place. Upon entering it smelled amazing and we were greeted by Sara(seen in the picture) who was sweet as pie! She was very personable and helpful. We ordered a dozen bagels and got 6 different kinds. Everything, onion, poppy, cinnamon raisin, rye and salt. They only had 1 rye and we ate that while we waited and it was just perfect. Great husk on the outside with an awesome chew just the right amount of moisture. They are consistent size and I believe these are boiled then baked (the right way to do it)to get that perfect combination. All of the bagels are LOADED with toppings that are set on there really well. The everything bagel was garlicky and the more you chew it the more the salt comes through and makes everything pop. The salt, poppy and onion bagels were equally awesome. The cinnamon raisin had lots of raisins and a great amount of cinnamon. I did not toast or put anything on them! Just as is! They do also have a cool menu with some intriguing combinations that I’m going to definitely try next time. We can’t wait come back. Great job folks!
