I trained under chokelab in the beginning of my jiu jitsu journey for a few years prior to moving out of state. From approximately 2019 to 2022.

The academy run by Sensei Josef Manuel is of the highest quality. All instructors were incredibly knowledgeable, humble, and respectful. The facility is clean and meticulously maintained with a wide variety of classes available suitable to those just starting out or seasoned practitioners.

While training at choke lab I always felt as if I was a part of the community and have made some lasting connections that I still talk to this day. If you’re looking to begin your jiu jitsu journey (and you absolutely should) you will be making a wise decision to go with Choke Lab.

I had the privilege of training under professor Josef Manuel for a few years and In that time my experience was extremely positive. His attention to detail is so beneficial for students like myself who do not always land the position in the first few tries. When entering his studio you feel instantly part of a team where you know you are cared for. The training is good hard training with very detailed drilling. Practicing new positions while always reviewing the old. He’s always reinventing new sweeps, takedowns and submissions. You would never be bored during his practices. Not only an amazing teacher/ person, but a world class competitor always pushing his own skills and knowledge to great limits. Taking gold time and time again. I respect Josef so much as an instructor and competition along with being a great man. Great person through and through and really recommend checking out Josef’s school if interested in learning Jiu Jitsu the correct way. He has a place for any Jiu Jitsu level there from beginners to extreme high level blacknbelts, along with kids classes etc. Best around in my opinion!

I can’t say enough good things about this academy! My kids have been going for 6+ years, The atmosphere is welcoming, professional, and motivating. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, the instruction is top-notch—clear, patient, and full of valuable details that really help you grow. A great place to learn Jiu Jitsu, whether you’re a newcomer or seasoned competitor. The venue itself is very clean and full of daylight.

Most of all, Head Professor Josef Manuel and Professor Chelo (pictured) are great instructors. They are patient and provide quality one-on-one time with students to help students better understand the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu. Seasoned students are also very helpful and friendly.
