Had my friend pick up an order of half garlic and half plain pizza for our movie night. The pizza was unevenly cut. So it was very hard to share, we had to cut some of the pizza ourselves. The garlic pizza was too much. It was overpowered with garlic. All I tasted was garlic. I couldn’t taste the cheese, the tomato sauce, the dough. You can even smell the garlic from a mile away. Couldn’t even finish the pizza pie even though I was starving. For some reason the plain pizza itself didn’t taste like pizza, it had an odd before taste. My friend did say the ladies at the shop was really nice so that’s why i gave it two stars instead of one.
Quite disappointed with this place, ordered a fried shrimp platter, cost total $30 (with tax and must pay in cash), only 6 pieces of mid-size shrimps that are heavily coated and over fried and hard to chew, 90% of the platter is French fries, don’t know how this can cost that high, and the taste is very so so.
Cash Only restaurant that has good food with generous portions. Their pizzas are at almost every table asks look great.
We had Chicken Francese , a couple salads and veal marsala.
Would return.
Hopped in here on a Friday evening without reservations and were lucky to get seated immediately (with baby in tow). We know we were lucky as a few guests shortly after us had 30 min waits.
Service was quick and friendly - they were very accommodating to find a table with room for a stroller. We ordered a cheese pie and some garlic bread. Within a minute a giant loaf of warm bread came to the table with butter packets. Our 9 yr old was in shock at the quick turnaround but we explained this was the complimentary stuff! He devoured half the loaf alone despite our pleads to save room.
The pizza came our fairly quickly as well. They only have one size, which I equate to q chain "medium". I saw the yelp pictures with a bit of char on the edges of the pies (and was secretly hoping for this much to be what would have been my wife's dismay if she knew). No char, no worries. The crust was solid, had a crunch near the edges. They were generous with the sauce and cheese and some brown cooked spots on the cheese were just right. Solid pie-tasted much like a homemade pizza you make at the house (its a compliment). Our only note was that the sauce could use a bit more flavor. It did taste of plain tomato sauce. I think a pie with some toppings would bridge any gap there.
Overall I would say a 7.4 on the portnoy scale. One (dozen) bite(s) everyone knows the rules.
Reservoir is some of the best authentic Italian dishes you’ll have in North Jersey. Whether you get a pizza, antipasto, or their delicious chicken arnold, this South Orange staple never disappoints. The portions are definitely shareable, but it tastes so good you might just eat it all yourself. The service is always friendly and the atmosphere is an old school Italian vibe. It’s like eating Sunday family dinner every night of the week.
