If my wife was with me, we would have never made it in the door. The exterior is dated, but inside.... the food was amazing! I eat at the bar and the people were great and welcoming. One local said "everything here is great" and she wasn't wrong. I only had two appetizers, but the buffalo wings and Japanese shrimp were both amazing!
First time here. I loved it. Had a steak and it was done to perfection. We had so much attention from the wait staff. Very casual and we were in a nice little room separate from the bar. It was quaint and quiet, great atmosphere. It's a definite repeat
The Thirsty Tavern
I stopped by The Thirsty Tavern while on a business trip and was drawn in by its local flair. The place has a cozy, small-town vibe with a mix of locals hanging out at the bar. As the evening went on, it got busier, mostly with more locals arriving, which added to the lively atmosphere.
The staff were incredibly nice and accommodating, which I appreciated. For starters, I ordered the fried calamari. It came out hot and was served with a tangy tomato sauce and a wedge of lemon. Unfortunately, the calamari was a bit on the chewy side and didn’t have the crispiness I was hoping for.
For my main dish, I chose the Thirty’s Triple Sauté—a hearty combination of sausage, chicken, and shrimp over a bed of rice with onions, peppers, and a flavorful sauce. While the taste was spot-on, the dish arrived so piping hot that it burned my mouth, and I had to wait a long time for it to cool down. By the time I could really enjoy it, the delay had put a damper on the experience.
Overall, The Thirsty Tavern had some positives: friendly service, a great local vibe, and decent flavors. But the execution of the dishes left something to be desired. If I’m in the area again, I’d probably look for a different spot.
Meg and Katie were the very best, down-to-earth mother and daughter duo who provided a perfectly entertaining atmosphere!!! The stories Meg could tell from the 47… let me say that again, 47 YEARS she’s been working here!! The food was just as great as the staff. Nearly everything is made from scratch here. The fish and chips was among the best we’ve had in our travels and the codfish sandwich was also top notch. So good that we ordered something to go, because we knew we couldn’t go wrong if they were recommending it- the Chicken Francaise Hoagie. The head chef has even been here 30 years so the consistency is going to be unparalleled. We will let you know after we come back for our next visit because now, there’s no way we will be passing up this place when we’re in town!
Never judge a book by its cover. Didn't want to go to a bar for dinner, but there wasn't a huge choice for mom and pop places in the area. There were a lot of good reviews, so we gabe it a shot. The Japanese shrimp had an amazing sauce, which we also dipped out bread in. My wife got seared tuna steak since there were a ton of reviews. She said it was the best she ever had. I got the grilled salmon and poured the remaining Japanese shrimp sauce on it. PERFECT!! You would never expect food to taste like this at a bar. They even put detail into the plating. The atmosphere isn't loud, friendly staff and patrons. Our server, David, was polite, fast, and a cool guy. Will return when we are in the area again.
