Allergy and Asthma Care

It has taken me some years to decide to write this review as I am no longer a patient of Dr. Menchell’s, and I have not been a patient for about 5-10 years. I can remember the office staff being so kind to me, and our conversations were the highlight of my visit. I do not want this review to reflect poorly on them because they’re aces in my book.
I was a patient of Dr. Menchell’s for more than 20 years. I did not always maintain my allergy shot schedule, and he did not hesitate to let me know about it. I used to beat myself up for not reaching and maintaining “maintenance level”, but I had so many other things going on that allergy shots couldn’t address. Polyps caused me discomfort, and my turbinates were so swollen one was almost coming out of my nose!! His solution was always the same- allergy shots and prednisone. I was not aware of the dangers of concerning long term usage of prednisone. So, I continued to ask for and receive it. This went on for many years along with two sinus draining procedures.
I continued treatment with Dr. Menchell in search of the ever elusive “maintenance level” which I only reached one time during the entire time I was a patient. It didn’t seem to make a lot of difference because allergies don’t always remain the same. I was continually berated for not keeping a consistent appointment schedule, and these scoldings would last for most of the visit. I remember asking him if I could be retested because my allergies were getting increasingly worse despite the shots and repeated use of prednisone. I asked for two things- 1) retesting to see if I was allergic to a cat I had just gotten- 2) Names of ENT’s. He provided me with several names of ENT’s but resisted retesting me. He finally conceded and retested me, but he did so begrudgingly. I made up my mind I was not going back to him after that visit. I decided to implement dietary changes and find a new doctor.
I went to Dr. Deblasi( he’s the best!) in Hempstead for a balloon sinuplasty procedure( still working to this day) and a new allergist in Rockville Centre(I can’t remember her name-I want to say Dr. Arlene, or Ellen, but I’m not sure). She was kind, and she tested me TWICE over a two hour period in her office. I did not react to any of the sites on my arm. This confirmed my dietary changes were working, so I continued. I was contacted by Dr. Menchell’s office staff to inquire of my whereabouts and why I had not been in to see him. I did not have the heart to tell them I was very disappointed with how he treated me, so I just made up an excuse and left it at that.
Please do your own research and do not allow a physician to dictate terms of your treatment. Be proactive and open to suggestions from other sources. It may save you 20 years of pain.

If you would have asked me yesterday about this practice I would have given it five stars. I have been coming here for a number of years and everything was fine. Fast forward to today I had occasion to go to Dr Menchell office to get my allergy shots. Dr Menchell immediately went into chastising me about not coming in on a regular basis. I explained to him I had things going on that prevented me from coming in sooner but to no avail. He continued to chastise me and tell me how he shows up and he comes even though he has family things going on. These are apples to oranges because this is his practice and his job that he gets paid for. I am a customer I do not get paid to come there I pay them for services. When he continued chastising me as though I was a child I knew it was time to make my exit from a very unpleasant, uncomfortable situation.

Dr Menchell and his nurses Joanne and Camille are amazing human beings!!! They are friendly, courteous, and really make you feel comfortable. Dr Menchell is an OUTSTANDING Allergist, and an all around great guy!!! He is very knowledgeable, his bed side manner is great, he takes the time to explain all so you are not in the dark about any part of your care. The office is nice and clean, and they are conveniently located by the Q 88, the Q 46, and the Q 76 bus. I have been a patient for over 20 years now, and I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else for my allergy care. I highly recommend this facility to anyone in need of a wonderful specialist in the asthma/allergy field.

I have been receiving immunotherapy for over a decade from Dr. Menchell, and as a result, I barely notice the pollen levels anymore. He is there for his patients. He is even willing to see patients when they have medical concerns that are not allergy related. He listens and he truly cares. I highly recommend him.

I was a patient of Dr Menchell years back for treatment of allergies and asthma. The treatments were so effective that I no longer suffer
with allergies, and haven't had an attack on years. The office is comfortable and the staff when I was there was really friendly.
