Lets talk about the Companions Who Care!
Recently I had occasion to visit the Office of Angel Home Care in Farmingville. My mother of 96 years has been a client of theirs since 2012. I have to say that I am thoroughly pleased with the service that they have been providing her. But that is not the real reason why I am writing this review. I witnessed something that day that I believe is truly astonishing in this day when businesses are struggling for every cent that they can squeeze out of their customers.
While I was in the office I overheard a conversation between, the owner, Ann-Marie Connor and one of her employees who was having difficulty entering the residence of one of their other clients. Upon entering, the companion discovered that the client had died and was laying on the floor apparently for a couple of days. What was amazing to me was the level of concern that she demonstrated not only for her employee who was obviously upset, but also for the deceased client. She made sure that the police were called and spent a lot of time on the phone with the county medical examiner. All the while her employee remained there with the ME and the body. Then, she went on to make arrangements for something to be done with the body and then spent more time finding out if there were any pre-made funeral arraignments because apparently the client had no close family to contact.
Please understand what was going on here from a business perspective.
She spent hours of her time and had a paid employee spending time there when there would be no compensation for the effort. That would amount to a very significant amount of money that was lost. Obviously she could have done much less and been totally justified in doing so but she honestly truly care. I understand that she even attended the wake because this person had been a client for a very long time. Again that is time she spent without compensation.
I know that in my business, time is money and I do not spend it frivolously, She took the time to truly be compassionate when there was nothing in it for her.
I read somewhere that the definition of Character is doing something for someone else when nobody else is looking. Ann-Marie Connor is the definition of Character and truly provides Companionship with Caring.
