Called to ask if they take my insurance. They wanted all of my personal information up front before giving me a yes or no. Why don't the people answering the phone know if an insurance is accepted so no one's time is wasted? Seemed like a red flag to me.
Dr HUSSAINI listens intently to my complaints, he didn’t rush during care he spend time to listen and care. The staff are very pleasant and have excellent customer service. Very courteous.
This review is from September 11 2023:
I had my first appointment on September 11 2023, first impressions the place is located in a nice neighbor, lobby is quiet and spacious, once I signed in took 5 minutes for the nurse to call me and check my vitals (weight, oxygen, and what none other sleep specialist has ever done before... she took measures of my neck). then she asked me couple of questions and then told me to sit and wait in the room I took the pictures. after maybe 10 minutes the doctor called me to his office.
Once inside he introduced himself, gave me a business card and told me to have a seat. Asked me how could he help me. I told him about the problems I had with NY Metro Sleep and then with New York Sleep Disorder Center. He asked me who had referred me and I told him I found him in google reviews.
He told me how the process would work, that I had options to also do video visits if it was hard for me to go to the office. That since I had a sleep study done recently I did not have to do one now, he submitted a refill for my supplies and game me a copy in case I need it. Also told me that If I could provide the serial number to my machine I would not have to bring my Machine SD card, to any other visits since they would be able to download the machine sleep stats remotely. He ask about my medical history (medications I am taking and any condition I suffer from) and thru the whole interview he made me feel like he really was paying attention, unlike everyone else I have seen in the other 2 places I went before.
I do not know if it will be like this always, but just by the first interaction that I had with the staff and the doctor I am more than impressed with their service.
On a side note the receptionist and the nurse both speak perfect Spanish. Something that is very important on our community. (Metro sleep has some bilingual receptionist, but New York Sleep Disorder Center did not, and the person on their reception had a bad attitude to begin with)
I give Better Sleep 5 starts for their service so far
TL;DR: kind, nurturing, attentive staff, comfy bed, takes ghi, bedrooms are a little too basic, could be a bit cleaner, easy and quick to book a sleep study with them.
Recommendations to take to sleep study: your own pillow, slippers to go to the bathroom, phone charger, long sleeves if you get cold easily.
I needed a sleep study because I'm grinding through all mouthguards and waking up with a ton of pain. My doctor warned me it would take months to get the study done anywhere because there are multiple appointments, with hard to get appointments. I called Better Sleep on Thursday to get the process started. They got me in to meet with the sleep doctor there within 15 minutes of my call, at about 3pm! Also they took my insurance, GHI, so all I've paid so far is my $30 copay and supposedly the sleep study is covered!
I waited no more than 10 minutes for the doctor. The waiting room has the chairs set up weird, like bus rows. Would be better against the walls. I had to meet with him before doing the study because I didn't have a referral from my regular doctor. We thought since I'm on a PPO, I can just walk in. But I was happy to meet with the doctor because he specializes in sleep and he gave me great advice on my insomnia (no phone in bed, wake up at the same time every day even weekends, 45 minute naps are ok), as well as a sleep journal, and he asked a lot of questions about my sleep concerns and my family history. He was polite, knowledgeable, and thorough.
Then the clinic was able to fit me in for a sleep study within a day! I got it done last night on a Saturday night, so no disturbance for work. I arrived at 8.30pm and was greeted by a very kind nurse type person named Jennifer. The bedrooms they have are basic and serviceable, as is the one bathroom we share. I did notice the sheets had a couple stains on them and the bathroom had a hair on the floor and the faucet handles were smudged. Otherwise the facility was clean but when you're sleeping somewhere you want it Really clean so that left a little to be desired. The bedside lamp didn't work and the overhead lights are very bright office lights so I had to read in bed with my phone flashlight. The bed was SO comfortable - memory foam and full sized. There was cable TV in the room but I chose not to watch it.
The hardest part was falling asleep because you're in a strange place, in a strange bed, and you're hooked up to about 10 different cords all over your head, face, neck, finger, and legs. Because you are attached to a lot of cords, you can't move easily, can only sleep on your back or right side, and have to call to Jennifer to get up for the bathroom.
Jennifer was nurturing, kind, and patient so I felt safe sleeping in the facility and under her care. It was easy to call for her, you just say her name outloud and she responds on an intercom in your room, and then comes to you. It was a little hard to relax at first because I know she was watching me on camera and listening to me all night, but she was so non judgmental and kind that I was soon at ease. I'm glad it was not a man.
I was worried the bedroom would be loud because the building is right on the highway but these rooms are well insulated, no windows, with strong ac, so it was quiet. The air conditioning was very cold which I love for sleep, although it clicked throughout the night.
I was woken at 5am (!!!!) to go home.
So far very happy with this place, would recommend.
