My tween daughter has the privilege to study the flute with Frances Brodeur. I am amazed at the level of confidence my little one has during a performance. This is due to Frances diligent instructions and high standards. She brings out something special in her students.

Lessons are not just a run through of a course book. Understanding, quality of sound and technique are the foundation of every lesson. Frances has a true calling to teach and pulls out hidden music ability. She is passionate and demanding of her student. She sets a high bar but works hard to help her students to reach and even exceed those expectations.

In Frances you will find someone kind, patient and a cheerleader for your child's success. She skillfully handles the challenge of young student ability & attention spans. My daughter knows if she comes across a daunting passage, "Frannie" will tirelessly work with her until she understands.

I look forward to the future, as my daughter continues her musical growth with Frances. I am proud my daughter is her student.

Frances is a kind, phenomenal flute teacher that will support you all the way from a beginner to an advanced flautist. I started taking lessons with her in March 2016, and now cannot imagine my life without the flute.

Music will make you grow in many ways. Studying music makes you more perceptive to the world around you (studying music history, learning about different cultures, and being more appreciative of the forms of music you hear), makes you grow to be a more confident person, and gives you an excellent opportunity to meet other people through joining bands or orchestras. Quite literally I have met all of my close friends through playing in various ensembles.

When I started taking lessons with her, I was a nervous boy who had terrible stage fright. However, as Frances gave me more and more opportunities to perform, I grew immensely into someone who isn't afraid of standing up and taking a solo.

Frances has helped me prepare for numerous auditions and competitions, from Middle School and High School auditions to the NY Flute Club Young Musician's Competition and even Concerto Competitions. With France's guidance, I recently won a concerto competition and played Mozart's Flute Concerto in D Major as a soloist with an orchestra!

With her extensive background in music, Frances also taught me enough music theory that I was able to score a 5 (the highest possible score) on the AP Music Theory exam.

No matter your age or experience, Frances has the knowledge and tools to support you, and I would highly recommend her as a flute teacher.

As a parent - you never know what activity your kids are going to really commit to and enjoy - karate? swimming? chess? When my 8-year old son announced one day he wanted to play the flute, I was happy of course, but thought it might be a passing interest. But after a decade of weekly lessons with Frannie, she took that little seed of an interest from a child, and nurtured it into something that has grown and shaped the person my son has become - a musician.

My son has been a student with Frannie for over a decade. Over the years, she helped him prepare for his audition for a middle school performing arts program and also audition for a specialized music high school. She supported his auditions to competitive symphonic bands and orchestras, where he had opportunities to perform side-by-side with The New York Pops, perform at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and even earn several scholarships to attend music camps. She taught him how to channel his nerves and perform under pressure, and she helped him prepare for - and win - an incredibly competitive Concerto competition. Even today, she is helping him prepare for an audition and a Concerto competition at his university.

None of his successes in music could have been possible without Frannie's steady guidance and support. She made lessons fun, she helped him develop his gorgeous tone and style, and she knew just how to challenge his interests and growing skills over the years with the repertoire.

No matter what age or stage your child is at - a beginner who is exploring their interest in music, a tween who wants to attend a performing arts middle school, or an older teenager auditioning for a competitive NYC performing arts high school or even preparing college auditions - Frannie is the very best teacher.

    She has our highest recommendation!!

Ms. Brodeur is an outstanding teacher for students of all levels—from complete beginners to advanced players. I started taking lessons with her when I was younger, and even after moving on to other teachers and attending the Mannes School of Music, I still come back to her for guidance. She’s an incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and inspiring teacher who has changed my life for the better. I truly cannot recommend her enough!

Frances is an excellent teacher. I am an adult student, have been playing flute all my life and have had several teachers over the years. With Frances, I have been working on core elements such as increasing breath control, improving tone and overall technique in ways that I have not focused on before. There is always something new to learn, such as how to practice scales with more intention and pleasure--that is no small feat! Frances has breathed new life into repertoire I am familiar with by giving me ways to practice difficult phrasing, strategies for breathing and how to play a piece in a more musical way. She helps me connect the technique work directly to the repertoire. Frances is very present in the lesson and each time I come away with an idea or concept I have never thought about before in my playing. I love the exercise/etudes books and repertoire she suggests. Frances has a deep understanding of the instrument and its place in music history as well as a breadth of general music historical knowledge that she easily incorporates into her lessons in an understandable way, making an even richer experience for the student. Frances would be an excellent teacher for students of any age, whether beginner or advanced. I could not recommend a flute teacher more highly than Frances Brodeur.
