My mom lives in Independent Living and I just have to give a shout out to Megan. I live in a different state so whenever my mom, who is in her 90s, has an issue and I need to help her make an appointment with the medical team or I have a question about an appointment etc, I call Megan. There also have been times when she has reached out to me to make sure my mom is getting the help she needs. Megan is sweet, caring, responsive and professional. She is a superstar!
June, 2025
After a recent visit I would like to update my opinion. Any and all meals that I ate in the Cafe were absolutely delicious on my visit in June, 2025! The varity of meals were extensive. Even a glass of water with cucumber and lime was amazing. I'm not sure when this change took place, but I so much appreciate that my mother can enjoy a delicious meal and I would not hesitate to encourage anyone with an elderly relative to have them move into Jefferson's Ferry Retirement Community.
My family and I had been very happy with my mother's choice to move to Jefferson Ferry several years ago. We were delighted to join her for a delicious meal in either the well appointed dining room overlooking the man-made lake or in the more casual cafe.
Regrettably the food at Jefferson Ferry has not retained the high quality it once had. The food is lukewarm, served in a pool of grease, referred to as gravy with vegetables which make no attempt at being fresh. The flavorless out-of-season fruit does not make a welcome addition to what is served. A dry tasteless dessert culminates the already awful meal.
Visiting the cafe or the dining room for the evening meal used to be the highlight of my mother's day. She enjoyed a delicious meal, at least two selections were available, as well as the company of her new friends.
Due to COVID the residents are quarantined to their apartments. While this is understandable, sitting alone attempting to ingest a "meal" of lumpy grease is not. Why is the most enjoyable part of the day being taken from our parents? Also, my mother has lost considerable weight which is a huge concern for her family.
The price of Jefferson Ferry has gone up 35% and they are building a new wing to accommodate additional residents. Apparently they are doing well financially.
MY QUESTION IS - Why aren't they taking care of the residents they have?
My mother lives here and because of work I, sadly, have to be 1000 miles away in Minneapolis. But I’m eternally grateful that she has the ability to live in a place like Jefferson's Ferry where I know she's being looked after! It's a little like living in a hotel but with a community that cares because they get to know you. They have independent and assisted living- with medical facilities as well. It’s not a depressing "old folks home" at all! They do all kinds of activities, take trips, go into the City to museums and to the theater, they have movie nights, lectures, Friday cocktails, classes, workshops, clubs--my mum actually started the Garden Club! They have a beautiful indoor pool; a salon, a work out room, a library, a cafe and a more formal dining room, and many more amenities. Also the food is quite good! Always fresh and they go out of their way to please you. Our favorite is the summer barbecues! If you are considering Jefferson’s Ferry do not hesitate to visit for yourself!
My parents have lived at JF for over 10 years now. The staff is lovely, the activities are well-planned, the food is delicious, and most importantly the respect and care for the residents is obvious. My parents are very happy and grateful that they are able to live there. My brother and I share that same gratitude.
My mom is 90 and has lived here for 5 yrs and loves it. We just visited her at Jefferson's Ferry and it was delightful. Met staff members and many knew mom by name and all were friendly and mom had nothing but nice things to say. The facility is very clean with wonderful amenities plus the tenants can be involved with different committees so they are involved in the decision making process. Beautiful grounds too
