Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum

I recently took my grandson, who is 1 year and 10 months old, to the Mid-Hudson Discovery Center in Poughkeepsie, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with excitement.

The Center is perfectly designed for children to explore, play, and learn in the most fun and interactive ways. My grandson had an absolute blast! Every corner had something engaging for little ones, from hands-on exhibits to spaces that encouraged curiosity, creativity, and discovery. What I loved most was how safe and well-thought-out the environment was—kids can be kids, explore freely, and parents and grandparents can relax knowing it’s built just for them.

The staff were friendly, attentive, and you could tell they truly care about creating a positive experience for families. It was such a joy to see my grandson’s eyes light up as he moved from one activity to the next—his laughter and excitement said it all.

This is truly a gem in Poughkeepsie, and I would highly recommend it to any family looking for a fun, educational, and memorable outing with their children. We will definitely be back!

Great small museum for kids! My first visit was in early 2016 with my older son. My recent visit was with my husband and younger son.

The museum has only two floors. The first floor is ideal for toddlers, while the second floor offers kinetic activities and more, suitable for kids of all ages.

My younger son had a blast, spending over two hours and refusing to leave! Even my husband and I enjoyed some of the activities.

Admission is $15 per person.

Last week one of the homeschool moms arranged a homeschool field trip to the Mid Hudson Discovery Museum.

It was a great experience. It reminded me of a smaller scale CMOM that’s located in the city. A stroller may be too excessive in a small space, bring a carrier if you have smaller children.

We split the kids into 2 groups: younger and older. They were separated for the in house planetarium purposes. I went with the younger group since my son is 6 & daughter is 1. During our turn in the inflatable planetarium, we watched a 30 minute video on stars that featured Big Bird and Elmo. The most interesting thing during the video was hearing the lullaby “Twinkle Little Star” in Chinese.

After the video, we explored the rest of downstairs and then headed upstairs. Upstairs is full of cool science themed projects that allow the kids to explore.

Very cool museum that I’ll recommend to any homeschool coop or individual family.

Great 2-story kids museum. First floor is for younger and second floor is great for STEM play and fun. Vending machines with snacks and drinks. Great souvenir shop. Very nice staff. Combine it with a water play park in the town and the river walk. Wonderful day getaway from the city
