Dan has been a private piano teacher to our son, Orlando, since age 8. Orlando is now 17 and has advanced to a level of play that allows him to pursue a music career starting at college in another year. Dan fostered our child’s love for music and helped guide him through the adolescent years where other interests also took much attention (ie sports, scouts, volunteerism, and academics).
Beyond just teaching piano, Dan worked with us as parents of an aspiring musician to explore different music styles and paths toward a career in music. Dan is both patient and stern when he needs to be in helping someone serious about piano reach their potential.
As our son’s abilities advanced, Dan opened doors allowing Orlando to perform at volunteer and paid performances further pushing beyond his comfort zone and experiencing new realms within the business of music. Our son continues to reach new levels of performance, evolve from classical to jazz/contemporary genres, and is ready to build music into his adult and professional life. Dan’s influence has had a profound positive impact on the trajectory of our son’s life.
We are happy to recommend Dan as both a good person and terrific teacher for those serious about learning piano.
Mr. Fogel is an exceptional teacher, as my 8-year-old son attests. Since the beginning of 2024, Mr. Fogel has been instrumental in nurturing my son's budding love for music. He is remarkably patient and supportive. He also has a unique ability to emotionally connect with children and making music knowledge accessible and engaging for young minds.
Beyond teaching technique (which he emphasizes from the very first class), Mr. Fogel is deeply passionate about help his students build a deep connection with music. I feel that for Mr. Fogel, playing piano is not just a skill to master, but more of a way to make one's life more enjoyable and fulfilled.
Thanks to Mr. Fogel, my son's love for music is blossoming. We are grateful to have found such a dedicated and passionate teacher.
Dan Fogel has been our daughter’s piano teacher for many years. Our daughter’s previous teacher recommended Dan Fogel because she was becoming too advanced for her teaching capacity. That was during elementary school and our daughter is now a high school senior.
Dan kept her musically engaged and challenged. She performed in honors recitals, All-State, President of Tri-M music honor society and played piano for paid gigs. It’s also been a healthy fun way for her to be social(participating in school acoustic cafes and playing in the Pit orchestra).
Dan has a low-key, informal teaching style while focusing on the skill building. He is also very capable in dealing with many types of music. During the pandemic and when scheduling is challenging, he worked with us-combining virtual, in-person and adding needed lessons.
We are very appreciative of his support and stamina.
Dan has been my son Christopher's piano teacher for about nine years, and in those nine years, his abilities have truly blossomed under his tutelage. When he first started learning under Dan, he had pronounced issues with his rhythm, positioning his body, dynamics, pedaling, and more. Dan has worked tirelessly to fix all of these problems because he doesn't do this work for the money, he has a passion for playing and teaching his students so they can be successful on their own. Any student who studies under Dan will immediately be at an advantage in comparison to students studying under other piano teachers, so I enthusiastically recommend him to any student.
Now that Chris is an advanced student, Dan has offered him, and helped him get, opportunities to play in either volunteer or paying gigs where he can perform at events for upwards of two hours. Clearly the rewards of studying under Dan extend beyond the formative years of learning piano, as Dan has now helped set Chris (and others) up with a opportunities to use his skills well into adulthood.
If you or your child have an interest in learning piano, I highly recommend Dan to be your teacher!
