I ran the 5K walk/run with the EAST NY LDC for the first time. Can't wait for next year!

The section of the park I went to was on the bridge at Howard Beach. I went there primarily to fish. I went midday and it was low tide so I went up onto the bridge to fish along with others. I didn't catch anything other than seaweed. I think I used too much weight for low tide. There is a Porta potty by the parking lot and a ice cream truck.

There are some beautiful spots, but the park needs a lot of cleanup. Much of the supposed trail is so overgrown with weeds as to barely be recognizable as a trail, and the beach is covered with trash. Make sure to wear long pants if walking within the park, as you'll be surrounded by high grass and reeds. It's also very annoying to get over to/from Shirley Chisholm State Park, as there's only really one entrance to the Shore Parkway pedestrian and bike path in each park and they're at the furthest ends from each other.

My happy place..finally a decent space for stretching the legs. Would've given it 4 stars but the workers keep patrolling to kick people out early. They close at 8pm and the sign says last entry at 7pm. Before you know it at 705pm they are driving around telling you to make your way out. For those of us who are working during this pandemic and can't get here earlier its very rude and inconvenient. I usually make sure I'm out of the park by 730 or 740 to allow them time to close up but this is just ridiculous. That aside they are friendly and its a beautiful space.
