Gather ‘round for details:
This selection (out of the three options available at the BM Inn) is perfect for a “fly-through” experience centered on a short purposeful stay e.g. hiking/action rather than a social/luxurious one. It’s a college-esque 6-person suite dorm-style setup with a comfortable personal room that features a queen bed, mini fridge, Keurig coffee/tea maker, TV. It has a common fireplace area with micro kitchen (microwave, sink, slightly larger fridge). You could burn a complimentary piece of wood in the fireplace but it’s seasonal access only so I wasn’t able to.
Pros:
1. My cottage (Summit) was situated at the perfect angle to catch the sunrise as it rose over the eastern horizon and the Hessian lake
in the morning. Amazing view.
2. The trails were closer compared to the main inn so getting up and going was a breeze and because the cottages are situated further out, less interaction with guests suited my social preferences.
3. The staff was accommodating. I arrived early and they held my bags while I explored the grounds. At proper check-in time, they even gave me a ride up to my room, sparing me a 10-minute walk with heavy bags. On the (early) morning of check-out, the concierge personally came to drive me back to the main inn so I could get my transport! Gold ⭐️ for that!
(Sort of) Cons
Like the other reviews shared, the walls are thin enough to clearly hear people living - flushing toilets, seats slamming, conversations, etc. which would have been a big minus if not for how short everyone else in the cottage stayed compared to me. The building layout has two rooms each directly adjacent to each other and two rooms separated from the others with their own longish hallway. It’s randomly assigned but if you luck up and get one of those you’d probably have a greater degree of privacy from the sounds. Maybe?
Overall I recommend this option for those who are looking to focus more on the “out” than on the “in” of the experience (so probably not ideal for couples) - and for a shorter time - before moving on. I will return to try the main inn experience next time!
The hotel is located near the mountain and several hiking trails. It’s the perfect place to escape the city hustle. There are many trails around the lake and picnic tables nearby. Also, near the cottages is the Major Welch Trail, which can save some time on hikes. The water in the cottage takes a little while to heat up.
The only downside is the terrible soundproofing. When we checked in, we could hear exactly what the neighbors were saying, their dog, and even when they left. Overall, the night went well because our neighbors returned around 3 a.m. and went straight to bed. We woke up at 3 a.m. because of the noise — the insulation is really bad 😂. But it wasn’t a big problem, as we quickly fell asleep again until morning.
It’s worth tolerating this inconvenience because the place is very atmospheric, with a beautiful large fireplace inside.
The shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water.
Place is nice and cozy. The stone cottages are good but small. Only issue is all the rooms are in a small cottage and there is a common sitting area. 6 rooms in one cottage !!Noise is a issue. Good view of the lake and walking area. Staff are excellent and helpful. But overall had a good time. Will try the main hotel next time.
