I am having trouble with somebody smoking pot on the weekends late night and flooding my apt with it. It is 1am, 30 degrees outside and I have all my windows and the patio door open to try and air it out. The front desk told me there is nothing they can do unless it happens when they are there (9-5); however, it is written into the lease that this is a non-smoking building. This has been a recurring problem. Sometimes I have to work on Saturday and Sunday mornings and right now, I can't even be in my bedroom. It is frustrating that this is a consistent problem and no one seems to care.
Otherwise, I like the location. The businesses in the courtyard and the little festivals are nice; I don't really need to use my car very much. The proximity to the train station is hard to beat. I really love the parking garage here. Not having to go outside into weather is great. My apartment itself is really nice and I think very well-insulated from the train noise. I still use an air filter at night to block out the rest of the sound, but the difference between the sound with the window open and closed is pretty significant. As the others have noted, many things have gone downhill since the new management took over, but there is still an upside.
Edit: The management contacted me both by email and phone immediately after I posted this in order to arrange a meeting. We met, they listened to my concerns, and developed a plan of action. I am satisfied with their actions to this point and I will update as this as the situation progresses.
When I first moved into The Core in the summer of 2024 it was a great experience. The staff was friendly and the building was always clean and well maintained. Though, ever since the new management took over earlier this year it has not been the case as much of the previous staff has since left. The fire alarm goes off multiple times a week for extended periods of time. Amenities, such as the gym area, are not as well maintained despite an increase in yearly amenity costs. Maintenance requests take longer to be processed and sometimes are not completed at all. Also, the building as a whole is not cleaned as frequently as it was under the previous management company as areas such as hallways, elevators, and amenity rooms can become visibly dirty and smell. When the new management company took over and I began to notice these trends I predicted that in 5-10 years the complex would eventually become a dump, but based on how quickly the quality of care has declined as well as the lack of care that some tenants show in regards to maintaining cleanliness in shared spaces in the complex, it appears this will happen much sooner than that. Lastly, we were told that the rooftop area would be open by the end of the summer in 2024. It is now November of 2025 and there is no news on what the status of the rooftop area is or if it will ever be opened. Overall, at this point this complex is overrated and overpriced based on the lack of quality present.
Also, within the past few months they have raised the hourly rate to rent the club room by 50% to $150/hour, combined with a $100/year ($900 total) increase for an amenity fee. There has been no reasoning for either of these increases as all of the amenities are exactly the same as when we first moved in. Just further evidence of why we will not be resigning a lease with this company following the end of our current lease.
When we were looking for a place to live we came across this place. It was great until new company took over. We were told nothing would change but then they started to move staff around between the complex that they own. We lost Nick the person that made us decide to pick this place over other places. Nick made this place feel like Station Yards was your home. The Core is not the same without Nick.
Got over charged on my rent by over $300 due to an error on the new company running the place. Hard to get a hold of someone to fix the problem. It's been about 1.5 months now and still no credit!
Parking also cost 124.92 extra per month for Residents only parking spots. Only spots opened is outside on 5th floor and god forbid you park in one of the dozens and dozens of opened public spots that you pass on the 2-3 floors as you drive by on your way to the 5th floor. You get Parking ticket warning you if you do not park in your assigned spot you will lose your parking privilege. ( I would not call paying $124.92 per month a privilege).
