Working with the product and the warehouse was an absolute terrible experience. The assembly “instructions” are terrible and most of them don’t even include a part list (attached a photo of the entirety of the lazy Susan assembly instructions and the one we bought had a completely different upper shelf). There are some videos but they must have been made for prior assemblies because they didn’t match the assembly O had. Even cheap furniture off Amazon has better instructions. Further, the cabinets came with 2-4 different screws with no explanation of which should be used where. Choose the wrong one and either your stability is shot or you end up putting screws through the finished side. And even though the website indicated that accessories could be used with certain cabinets that turned out to not be the case. When I asked for additional instructions, our customer service rep was great at communicating what the warehouse said, but those additional instructions weren’t helpful and in the end didn’t work. And then when I decided to return them due to the poor item description I had to ask that the 25% restocking fee (which is quite exorbitant) and the shipping fee be waived. I then had to repackage the accessories even better than the RTAStore originally did before they would let me return them. The extra star was only because the cabinets (that weren’t damaged in shipping or due to poor instructions) were actually pretty good.
I’m on my 4th attempt at trying to get undamaged panels and panels that don’t have splotchy paint.
I paid extra for a warranty and still can’t get enough panels to put together cabinets. The quality deserves 1 star but I gave an extra star bc their claims department contact is nice.
Beware buying from them unless you have time to play their game of attempting to get usable parts repeatedly.
Detailed experience with RTA Store
We sought out to create an amazing custom kitchen on an RTA budget. We wanted white oak lower cabinets, with white upper cabinets that went to the ceiling. Now that our contractor is complete, we are quite happy with the look of the cabinets we got from the RTA Store, but it was definitely a journey to get here. Some things to really look out for and/or be aware of.
1. RTA Store does not manufacture these cabinets. All of my cabinets (Asheville White & Ashville Rift Oak) came from Tribeca Cabinetry. Keep this in mind since they have little control over their manufacturer
2. Painted cabinets - Our white cabinets were the Asheville White line. These are sprayed with a white color and then with a clear varnish type coating for hardness. Their painters are either inexperienced or wildly rushed. I think I had 6-8 doors, and one face frame re-shipped because of pitting, sags, and dirt under the varnish coating. Also, based on my experience thus far, this finish is not going to be particularly long lasting (I'm a hobbiest woodworker who regularly sprays cabinet grade paint).
3. Materials used - The doors on their higher end lines are like the Ashville Rift Oak are "solid wood". But this is not to be confused with solid rift white oak. I cut a sample door and found the doors are constructed with some sort of white wood (harder than pine but softer than soft maple) wrapped in a ~.5mm thick white oak veneer. This isn't a negative or positive per say. Just understand that its veneered, which has some different characteristics vs real wood
4. Shipping / Receiving - I will never understand why they use freight trucks that don't have the ability to offload the pallet. You must get everything off the truck yourself. The actually had the audacity to ask me if I had a forklift at my residence
The Good Stuff!
1. Their customer support is very good. I worked with a gal named Faith who was very responsive, and helped me get fresh doors and parts delivered to me in a reasonable amount of time to replace the poorly finished ones
2. These are not hard to build, and as a woodworker who has built their own cabinets before, they are well constructed (if you are buying their higher end cabinets)!
3. They have a lot of the accessory parts you need to finish a kitchen properly - scribe boards, fillers, panels, kick panels, decorative panels, etc.
The mehhhh stuff
1. Their selection of crown moulding is very underwhelming. We sourced ours from a local provider and painted to match
2. Their touch up kits are egregiously overpriced.
Would I use them again? Yes, definitely. Especially for stained cabinets. Just know that its unlikely that it will all go swimmingly
My wife and I own a home improvement company buying and renovating old homes. We have worked with the RTA Store numerous times over the years and have always been extremely satisfied with the results.
Our designer for our most recent project was Virginia Porten. We cannot say enough about her. She gave us helpful ideas and feedback throughout the design. Virginia was always quick to get back to us with updates which kept the project on time and on budget!!
After working with the RTA Store I cannot understand why everyone doesn't use ready to assemble cabinets. The savings is significant and the customer service is top notch. Thank you to the RTA Store and Virginia! 5 stars!!
