We had a fantastic experience with Theraspeak Speech and Language Therapy, especially with our therapist Melinda. She is truly wonderful, very kind, dedicated, and incredibly skilled. The progress our son made was amazing, and he absolutely loved each session.
Melinda has a natural way with kids, keeping them engaged and focused while making therapy fun. She explained everything so clearly and gave us helpful materials to use at home. What can often be a slow and frustrating process became enjoyable and successful thanks to her.
We’re so grateful for her support and highly recommend Theraspeak to any family looking for speech therapy.
I had the pleasure of working with Melinda for my child’s speech therapy, and I couldn't be more impressed with the experience. She made my child feel comfortable and confident, creating a warm and welcoming environment. I’ve seen noticeable improvement in my daughter speech and every time she is genuinely look forward to each session. I highly recommend Melinda to anyone who is seeking professional for their kids!
My son showed amazing improvement after just a few sessions! Thank you to Melinda at Theraspeak for the gentle, diligent care you gave my son. He not only showed marked, swift improvement but you were instrumental in showing us as parents how we can support our son’s speech growth at home as well. Melinda never failed to be accommodating, punctual, and flexible. She genuinely enjoys working with children and is so motivational. Melinda was always so thorough even taking the extra step to provide written, lengthy feedback via email of our sessions as well as gave us the tools to continue building the foundation of our son’s speech.
Melinda is an incredible speech therapist who progressed my young 4 year old from 5% intelligible speech to not requiring services in about 6 months!
We worked with three other speech therapists before finding Melinda and we knew immediately she was who we HAD to work with. The other therapists were too structured and unresponsive to my child's individual needs and personality. She was a checklist to get through for them and it felt like a waste of time given their lack of understanding. My daughter hated going.
In comparison, Melinda lets the child make SOME decisions during therapy to maintain their interest and help them feel in control (do you want to play with the treasure chests today or the squirrel game?). Melinda prepares the speech exercises in advance and then adapts based on what the child is displaying interest in and what the child is responding best to. Melinda has a number of methods to help revert attention and participation back when my daughter struggles to pay attention. Melinda will also model being the student and let my daughter catch her speech errors, so she can listen and learn how to distinguish the speech. My daughter loves copying Melinda and I think feels more confident when she gets to be the teacher. It is also a great technique to use when my daughter is not participating well since she is still learning even she is not speaking.
Melinda always makes time at the end of the session to go over my daughter's progress and explain her exercises for us to work on at home. Melinda will download, print, and cut up games that are specific to my daughter (has her name on them and are the exact words she is struggling with each week!) and writes notes for us as parents how to modify the games based on our daughter's progress. She does this twice a week and it really shows how invested she is in my child's progress that she spends hours offline working on these materials. Melinda takes notes every session and provides us progress reports for insurance and the school district.
Melinda has the patience of a saint. My daughter can be a little extra ("no, we are going to play with X today instead" or "No, I need to do one more spin") and Melinda has only ever responded with love and understanding. I am ready to firmly instruct my daughter to stay on task and I never actually need to because Melinda already has it in hand and gently gets my daughter back on track.
My daughter's teachers have noticed a significant difference in her speech and have commented that her academics have improved now that they understand what letters she is saying. Before, other children would sometimes turn to me to translate for my daughter, and it was beginning to effect her socially. That is no longer an issue at all.
My daughter is always pumped to see Melinda and runs to the window to stalk her and runs there to wave goodbye too. She will ask daily if it is a "Ms. Melinda day?" or not.
We are so very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Melinda and we cannot thank her enough for restoring our daughter's confidence, improving her intelligibility, and being a happy playmate throughout the process. If you are considering speech therapy for your young child, you need to meet with Melinda. It is the best gift you can give your child and yourself.
Melinda has been working with my older son for almost 3 years and my little one for 2 years now. They both started with minimal words and now say in sentences. Melinda is truly amazing and she is dedicated to what she does. It is truly a blessing to find a speech therapist that works well with your child and that is Melinda. Both of my kids love her so much and she made them feel comfortable and also gave us great advice and strategies to work with them. I would highly recommend Melinda to any child with speech delays.
