The best lil library in all of CT. Beautiful interior with painted vaulted ceilings upstairs, fully equipped makerspace downstairs, and a wonderfully vibrant staff who are deeply involved in their community. I would not trade this place for anywhere else.
The staff are kind but they do like to talk loudly when there’s not a lot of people there. The staff has also taken pictures and posted them on Instagram without people’s consent.
The Gunn Library is, in a word, fabulous! Most of my personal experience has been in the children’s library, working with the amazing Linda and her staff. Her infectious enthusiasm to program for kids, as well as help families with finding books or reference materials, is nothing short of magical. I simply cannot speak highly enough about this wonderful community resource!
The Gunn Memorial Library is a treasured gem and the community center of not just the town but the area. It's a beautiful place to visit, with knowledgeable, friendly and always helpful staff who will quickly steer you to your book requests or make excellent suggestions for a great read should you suggest a topic or just say, "I want a page turner for a cozy wintry night". Make sure to visit the second floor of the original building with it's gorgeous mythological Mowbray mural across the ceiling, stained glass windows, mahogany paneling and stone fireplace where guest lecturers and authors present. On the way up, check out the rotating art exhibits along the walls. The children's library below the main floor is wonderful for kids with a great selection of books, children's programs and computers. It's where our children developed their passion for reading with the engaging books recommended by staff. And if reading is not your "thing" check out their huge library of movie DVDs.
This was my first visit. I found lots of information on local places of interest on the first floor and loved the second floor auditorium. It felt like an old home with the wood paneling and stained glass windows. The library offers free movies and stimulating lectures. I'm looking forward to attending future events.
