My Dad was admitted for short term rehab at the Lutheran Home after a fall at Home. The entire staff was great including the nursing team, the therapists, social workers and admissions coordinator. Very Clean Facility, respectful work force that greets everyone kindly. Nurse Case Manager Monica W. actually took my Dad under her wings and made sure his time there was as pleasant as possible considering the stress that he was going thru to rehabilitate both mentally & physically.
They clearly needed more help at the time my mother was there and to hire help that want to do their specific duties.
In my experience I found that:
1) The nurses didn't read my mothers medical chart for updates prior to their visit. At least 3 times...
2)They didn't seem to have an organized system for important updates and information available for the care team and between departments
3) Too many laxatives and water pills (she became dehydrated and had low electrolytes) and not consistent on another med.
4)I saw 4 call buttons on at one time and 40 minutes later not 1 had been turned off
5) The male nurse could've helped my mother and changed her "diaper" but instead ignored her and let her sit in her filth.
6) Case workers didn't have important info that affected my mother's release date
7) PT didn't know about her blood clot
8) It seemed the aides would be on their phone and chit chatting together sharing photos for too long and too often instead of assisting the patients.
Having said all that there were nice people there who really cared about doing the right thing for my mother. At this moment I regret that I cannot remember their names as it was months ago.
Still, neither I nor my sister, nor my mother, would want her to stay there again.
I spent 2 weeks at the Lutheran Home of Southbury after surgery. The nurses and aides were great. They were very helpful and attentive. The Physical and Occupational therapy staff were amazing. They were like a family. They prepared me to go home strong and safe. The food wasn't great and the TV service was terrible. Besides that, my stay was nice and the staff very friendly. I would recommend them for short tern rehab.
My wife is a resident at the memory care unit at Lutheran Home in Southbury, CT. I can not say enough about the staff. From the administrators to the lovely people who keep the facility clean and running. I've been by my wife's side for several days and I can see first hand how well tuned that staff operates. But it's not just about the resident, it's about the total family. Myself and my family who have stopped by to visit, were treated with kindness and professionalism.
Ten years prior, my mother was a resident at the Lutheran Home. I never forgot the wonderful treatment she received. May God bless this team.
