Yin Yang Tai Chi Academy

Master Guang is an amazing instructor. In the fall of 2021, I spent a month at a hospital due to a chronic illness. I could barely walk, and my balance was poor. I believe that the Yin Yang Tai Chi Academy has been instrumental in helping me get back to a place where I can confidently walk, jog, stand, and balance again so I can once again enjoy time with my wife and kids.

After following tai chi instructional videos online for several months, I found YYTA shortly after moving to the Hartford area. I've now been attending the beginner qi gong/tai chi classes for a few months now, and recently started the all-levels tai chi class.

Master Guang is kind, funny, and an excellent instructor. He clearly has a wealth of knowledge and experience in tai chi, but presents it in an approachable way. Sometimes longtime students, such as Linda or Joe, will teach classes, and they are amazing as well. I've learned so much more than I could have simply following videos, with Master Guang providing feedback and corrections. Classes are welcoming and beginner friendly for all ages and levels of fitness.

The primary benefits I've gained from regularly attending have been much better balance, deeper breathing, and exercises to stretch/strengthen muscles that I either overuse during my work day (like my wrists and fingers, sitting at a computer all day) or that I underuse, like in my hips. I leave each class feeling refreshed and calmer; I find the experience meditative and usually feel a greater sense of mental clarity after class.

The other great thing about YYTA is the community. Many of the people going have been attending classes here for a long time, and it feels like a family. The group is very welcoming and helpful, and really contributes to the overall experience.

I can't recommend YYTA enough! Definitely check it out if you've been considering tai chi or are looking for a healthy, meditative experience.

Master Guang's Qigong and Tai Chi classes online through Zoom are a great way to decompress without leaving your home. Each class brings new learnings, better ways to manage your own body and become peace with yourself. I highly recommend his classes no matter what your age or physical activity level. I personally look forward to each session.

I had been encouraged to consider Tai Chi and QiGong for years but never gave it enough thought. About four years ago we joined the Yin Yang Tai Chi Academy in West Hartford and I have been (gently) kicking myself ever since for not having done so long before. I strongly recommend it. Don't wait like I did. It is a wonderful experience.

Master Guang has amazing skill in this ancient Chinese practice, bringing long experience and respect and skill to teaching the newcomer or the veteran how to best apply the graceful beauties to improving one's health, spirit and life. Just watching him is worth the price of admission but there is so much more than that. Under his skilled guidance and the help of his wonderful instructors I have come to look forward to my time at the academy. My balance, confidence and attitude have improved markedly. I came in on a brief trial but re-upped almost immediately and have been a proud member of this excellent group ever since.

I eagerly look forward to the hour-long sessions several days a week where Master Guang leads us through a thoughtful, tailored series of movements and exercise. He is indeed a Master at this and the teaching of it. He is wise, professional, kind and fun. We all take this very seriously but it always pleasant and challenging, too. One does not have to be a martial arts expert to succeed at Qi Gong and Tai Chi here. Master Guong and all those others are welcoming, patient and work to make the experience a treasure.

The other people taking the classes come from every part of the community and bring diversity and support to the process. They are really nice folks and we are so happy to be among them.
