I had an excellent experience with Atlantic Towers and their Tower in a box, for a new arch on my catamaran. The quality of the arch was excellent. It is way overbuilt for the job holding a 300 pound dinghy and some solar cells. The instructions, printed photos of how to mount things stuffed in with the parts bags, and the video they sent me insured that even if I was all thumbs I could get the job done correctly. That said, an arch is probably the largest thing going on most boats and it is not a trivial project. Finding where to put it, and dry fitting it five times before I found the best location was accomplished without much pain, only because four friends helped me. I cannot imagine trying to do this with only two people.
The mounting hardware is heavy duty and the arch is very solid.
They have many options, and I could have mounted this arch slightly forward and used extension arms for the dink, or further aft and not needed extension arms. I highly recommend planning this out in advance unless, like me, you have multiple people moving the arch back-and-forth.
A similar arch in stainless steel would’ve been four times the price, and then there would be the cost of someone mounting it. Their instructions were very helpful. Little things like keeping the arch under tension when you dry fit it are extremely important for the stability of the arch after it’s mounted. Not following the instructions on such a large project could make for a structurally less-sound installation. You should not underestimate that this is a big job for most people.
As I mentioned earlier, if I had ordered this through my Marina I would have waited six months and spent probably five times the cost if I included installation. Instead, I ordered it on Thursday, drove to New Jersey and picked it up on Saturday morning, and had it mostly installed by Thursday.
I bought the kit for solar cells, but need to save my pennies for a while to afford the actual cells. Hopefully I will have solar on before I head to the Keys this winter.
So in summary, it is a top-quality product that is very cost-effective and will last the life of the boat. The results are somewhat dependent on the detail of attention spent in mounting, but I’m sure the overbuilt nature of the arch would make up for some installation shortcomings. Check out YouTube for some great installation videos done by others.
They were very helpful in getting me the info i needed to install the tower on my own. I will say, to make sure to follow what they say, it works. The Super radius tower is amazing. I have it on a 220 XT Pro Sea Fox. Best investment on the boat i could have made when it comes to towers. They offer additional parts and pieces to add items such as curved washers for adding light bars and front lights. If you go with the solid fish master electronics box it fits great on the towers.
Last fall I purchased the tower in a box for my 2012 Sea Hunt which I had just purchased. Everyone at Atlantic Towers was extremely helpful and they made picking the products up at their warehouse a breeze. I also ordered 2 additional rocket launchers this spring and they showed up promptly. All of the products are very well made, durable and functional. The products look great and add functionality to my boat.
I ordered a hard top and radar mount for my 1987 Grady White Overnighter. Took me about 5-6 hrs to install alone. I couldn’t be more pleased with the finished result. It’s perfect for the boat. Had curtains made to fit the tower as well. Customer service was very helpful and explained everything clearly. Great product and great service!! I’d recommend to anyone.
Thank you- Ryan
We ordered this after having a few emails to get issues decided for
which one to order with Shelley and she took us through and helped us
figure the right top for us, we placed the order and we were off. About
a week later the top arrived damaged, not from poor packaging from
Atlantic Towers, the supplier used a forklift (even though CLEARLY
marked not to use one) and broke a hole in the fiberglass top. I
emailed Shelley and by the end of the day had sent pictures and she had
already made arrangements for it to be picked up the next day and it was
replaced and about 1 1/2 weeks later we had the top. At first the
directions were a bit lacking, but once you understand the mounts it
went quickly and we are super happy with the end result. It is sturdy
and gives 3 times the cover of the old bimi top. I would order again if
I was to get another boat. Thanks Shelley!
