First off, I am writing this review to be as useful as possible to anyone looking to purchase from this dealer. Second, John is nice and professional to work with.
I purchased a 2017 Police Interceptor Utility about two years ago with 95,000 miles for around $11k. Initially I was very happy with the purchase, everything seemed great and it drove well. However, when I got home I realized the horn and high beams were disconnected, which is no big deal because I do automotive wiring for work but I was a little disappointed that something so simple was missed right off the bat. Then I realized that the engine has 21,000 hours on it (17,000 idle hours), which is a lot considering what I paid for the car especially since 4-6 thousand idle hours is considered to be high according to my research. Then in less than two weeks after I purchased the car the car started throwing codes, at first it was an evap leak and I spent a good deal of money having that diagnosed, the it was misfire codes and again I spent a good bit on those codes and getting them diagnosed. Also the A/C needed to be recharged within a month of purchase and the A/C blend actuator was also broken. In addition to these things, I have since discovered body damage to both bumpers hidden under paint, and across the whole car the paint has started to degrade in just two years and is flaking off around the edges.
And I get it, I should have caught some of these issues from the beginning, but I feel that the car was overpriced. And when I posted this review intitally I was asked why I gave the feedback I did, and I explained the issues and the response I have gotten is "I do not see idle hours as a potential issue" however according to Ford every idle hour is equivalent to 33mi. While the car may not be moving it is still causing wear to the engine which should effect the price of the car. That is why I feel I overpaid. So now I am going to have to deal with expensive paint costs and potential engine issues due to high hours (I have already had to have one catalytic converter replaced because of this).
That being said, maybe I got a bad deal, maybe the car was a lemon, but I honestly don't know. I know there are risks when buying used law enforcement cars, but I have come to the conclusion that going to auction would likely be better if you are going to have to do a lot of work if you are buying from a dealer anyway. At least you save some money and can choose what all you want to have done from the beginning.
Hopefully this review helps someone, just think the purchase through a little more than I did and be careful.
