Brookhaven Health Care Facility

My mother is a rehabilitation patient at Brookhaven. I do not know if this place is understaffed or underpaid but the aide staff is lackluster at best. My mother was placed here due to the good reviews. However in the time my mother has been here I’ve noticed that she is not turned regularly as was instructed by her doctor. She does not receive medications at the same time each day. She presses the call button and gets a response about 30 minutes or so later. My mother has not been showered in a week, she would requires a hoyer lift and I guess it’s too much trouble? My mother requested a bedpan and had to wait over an hour. I got so frustrated I gave her the bedpan myself and cleaned her up.when I went to front desk to complain. Her aide explained that “I just came in, and will get to her” even though it was 46 minutes into her shift. It is now 6:51 pm and aide has not come to change, check on her or anything else. The doctors seem to be caring and knowledgeable about her condition and the physical therapy team is doing a good job also. Overall, a lot needs to be improved in this facility as it is right now I would not recommend.

My mother has been at this facility for a few weeks now. The nurses have been great and the p/t staff have been wonderful . I do have to say that in reading the reviews, its hard to believe that nobody has had any complaints about the staff that helps the patients with their day to day needs such as using a bed pan, needing assistance to use the bathroom etc. I am aware of at least 3 instances where my mother has been left on a bed pan for 2 hours after using it! She's trying to be independent and use the bathroom more. She made someone on staff aware that she had to use the bathroom and it was almost 2 hours before they returned to assist her! My mother should not have to wear a diaper because she's afraid she may relieve herself before someone returns to assist her to the bathroom! There have been other instances but will not get into that now. It doesn't seem like its due to a staffing shortage being that I have on a number of occasions seen up to 3 staff members just sitting around at the station up front while my mother was nauseous and waiting for someone to return for well over an hour to assist her out of the wheelchair and back to bed. This is truly unacceptable! Patients being treated like this are having their dignity taken from them at a time when they are struggling. I find it hard to believe that my mother is the only one to experience this treatment here! Perhaps the patients don't want to complain for fear of being treated worse or perhaps in some cases the patients aren't able to communicate what is happening. Either way, it is not okay to have anyone treated in this way! This facility really needs to pay better attention to some of the staff members and keep a closer eye on what's going on! I do want to say that it is not all of the staff. Some of the staff have been wonderful to my mother and truly helpful but that should be the case with ALL OF THE STAFF! There should be no exceptions! All of the staff should be treating every patient with respect and kindness, not treating them like they're a bother. I mean after all, that's what they're getting paid for! I hope that the situation will be looked in to and that something will be done! As I said, I'm sure its not only my mother that has had this experience and even if so, it should not be tolerated!

When I arrived at this facility I was a total wreck, both physically and emotionally. The excellent intensive medical, nursing and physical therapy care I received was solely responsible for my recovery in a remarkably short period of time. The entire staff was quick to respond to all my needs and requests 24/7. It also amazes me how the Activities staff plans outstanding entertainment and group functions to make this place more like a community than elsewhere. It is the only place I would consider coming in the future.

Brookhaven Health Care facility is definitely the place you want your family to go to, no doubt. My grandfather came here back in October due to a minor stroke, he was an acute patient, yet the staff treated him as if he’s been here forever. The amount of love and compassion I was able to witness through the staffs actions said more than enough. This place is definitely the right place for you and your family !!

My mother was here for about a month the level of care from the staff was incredible. The facility was EXTREMELY well maintained for a nursing home, always smelled clean and fresh, rooms kept very tidy as well. Soo many mental enriching activities for the guests here as well. The social workers and billing dept staff were extremely great as well. I wish I could rate more stars, one of the best facilities my mother has been too
