Gevaldik One-Stop Judaica Heaven in the Catskills: Center One is Mamish a Matana from Shomayim!
Baruch Hashem, if you're spending the summer up in the bungalow colony (or even just driving through Woodridge on the way to kratzmach), and you suddenly realize you're out of siddurim, need a new menorah, or the kinderlach are begging for some holy toys that aren't just plastic junk – Center One Judaica is the place that saves the day! I've been coming here every summer for years, and every time I walk in, it's like striking oil in the middle of the mountains.
The store is huge – shelves from floor to ceiling packed with everything a Yid could want. Seforim? They've got the full ArtScroll lineup, all the new Mesivta Gemaras, Chumashim with every meforsh under the sun, and even those gorgeous leather-bound sets that make you feel like a real talmid chacham just holding them. English books too – from Rabbi Frand's drashos to the latest cookbooks (my wife stocked up on those new Pesach ones and hasn't stopped baking since, oy the calories). Then there's the Judaica section: stunning kiddush cups, esrog boxes that look like they belong in the Beis Hamikdash, tallis bags with every design (I finally upgraded from my bar mitzvah one that's falling apart), and beautiful ceremomial art that makes great gifts for a chasuna or bar mitzvah without breaking the bank.
And the toy section? Don't get me started – the kids go absolutely meshuga! Holy board games, Alef-Beis puzzles, dreidels in every size, and those plush Torahs that the little ones drag around like teddy bears. I had to pry my youngest away from the display or we'd still be there. They even have a whole area for simcha supplies – tablecloths, benches signs, you name it. One time we needed last-minute stuff for a sheva brachos up the block, and Center One had everything – saved us from a major balagan.
The staff? Total mentchen. Always a warm "gut morgn" or "good Shabbos" (even on a Thursday), and they're super knowledgeable without making you feel like an am ha'aretz. I asked for recommendations on a good sefer for my teenager who's getting into hashkafa, and the guy behind the counter spent 10 minutes explaining options, pulling down a few, and even knocked a couple bucks off because "it's for chinuch." Prices are fair – yeah, it's not Five Towns discount, but for the selection and quality up in the country? You can't beat it. And those annual sales? Gevaldik – I once walked out with bags full and still had gelt left for ices.
The store is clean, organized (no tripping over boxes like some places), and they've got that classic Catskills vibe with the big signs announcing the end-of-summer blowouts. It's not just shopping – it's an experience that puts you in a real Yiddishe mood.
Bottom line: If you're in Woodridge, Swan Lake, or anywhere in the borscht belt, Center One is a must-visit. You'll leave loaded up, happy, and already planning what to buy next summer. This place is a real bracha for the frum community up here – keep it up, Center One! Five stars, no taivos, highly recommend to every family, bochur, and anyone who loves quality Judaica with heart. 📚🕍✨
