Honest Review of Hunan Garden

I was excited to try the new Chinese takeout spot in the area, Hunan Garden, but unfortunately the experience left a lot to be desired. While they did put some effort into the presentation — even the takeout bag looked thoughtfully done — the quality of the food didn’t match.

The egg roll was extremely tough, almost cardboard-like, and not enjoyable at all. On top of that, they didn’t include a single packet of soy sauce, duck sauce, or mustard. After paying for the order, you assume the basics will be in the bag, but nothing was provided.

I ordered shrimp fried rice with egg, as I would at any regular Chinese restaurant, and the portion and flavor were both disappointing. The combination platters were also very minimal. I understand food costs have gone up, but the quality still needs to be there — and here, it just wasn’t.

Honestly, the cooking needs serious improvement. If the kitchen wants a model for what great Chinese takeout should taste like, they should take a trip to ON'S in Pleasantville. That level of quality is what people expect.

At this point, I wouldn’t go back, and I wouldn’t recommend the food in its current state.

The food was absolutely delicious — full of authentic flavors and cooked to perfection. Every dish we tried was fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the service was fast and professional. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for real, high-quality Chinese food. We’ll definitely be coming back

Awesome find, really great food and service! We got the broccoli in brown sauce and it was cooked to perfection! The egg drop soup and egg roll were also good!

Wow! FINALLY!!! A truly great Chinese restaurant that still cooks up incredibly flavorful dishes during this crazy COVID-19 time. This place is legit!! The flavor is on point and everything was super duper fresh! Haven’t had this quality in the entire last year and we’d tried all the top rated Chinese takeout joints in the area. This is the one! We’ve found our new go-to on those nights we’re really craving some Asian food. Make sure you check this place out. One bite of each dish and we immediately knew this spot was 👌👌👌
