4 stars because people working their are very nice, otherwise small selection of wines.
Nice big selection decent price friendly service
Prices are very high. Cases all over the place makes the store look trashed. Hard to maneuver and even harder to find price on items.
Kazs Wines And Liquors has the best and largest selection of wines and liquors in all of monticello. The store is so kid friendly. I brought my kids with while i just had to get some wine for the holidays and they gave my kids lollipops. The owner and ALL the workers are so nice and helpful. They went out of their way to help me. Overall, this is the best liquor store ive ever been to!!
So there I was, deep in the noble act of restocking my home bar for the summer--ten bottles strong on the counter, visions of cocktails dancing in my head--when, at 8:50-something, the clerk hits me with: “We’re closing in a few minutes, you’ll need to hurry.”
Now listen. I get it. Everyone wants to go home. But I was mid-mixology mission, and it had taken me less than 10 minutes to choose my current 10 bottles. It wasn't like I'd been there for hours. This was literally hundreds of dollars in curated spirits. The kind of transaction that normally warrants a “hey, thanks for your business,” not a countdown clock.
Did I buy the bottles I had on the counter? Yes. Did I feel the joy of a spirited haul? Not quite. I would’ve bought more, but the sudden closing-time energy made me feel like a party crasher at my own party.
Selection-wise, the basics are covered, but if you're looking for bitters or anything slightly off the beaten path, you may be out of luck. That said, they did have Benedictine which has been the Where’s Waldo of my local liquor hunt, so they get props for that.
Bottom line?
They’re fine. But in a town with other options, I prefer my liquor store to feel like an enthusiastic enabler of my cocktail dreams—not a bouncer at last call.
