Definitely amusement park prices, which I get based on food prices in New York and the remote spot they are in. However, when paying over $20 for a small sandwich and a lemonade I would expect my cup to at least be filled a little higher (photo is how I got it minus two sips :-) and the bun on the sandwich to be of higher quality - it had the consistency and taste of the cheapest hot dog bun you might buy at a low end supermarket. The fish on the sandwich was good, the sandwich was just not very big and I had to go eat a second lunch somewhere else.
Some of the service was nice, some was not. Also, the wait is pretty long - I waited about 15 minutes and because I was there early (11:30am) when I got in line I was the 4th person in line - by the time I got my food the line had tripled so I can imagine the wait only grew proportionally.
Where they are located is absolutely lovely with plenty of seating available in the shade or in the sun.
Adorable spot to grab food and a drink on Governor’s. Plenty of picnic tables and seating with a good atmosphere. Hot dogs were $3 each. Peach sangria had fresh fruit and was $11 and frozen pink lemonade with vodka was $15.
Had the fish n chips and the chicken fingers. Both were super crispy and well seasoned. Even on a super cold winter's day they were steaming hot. Usually the fish in fish and chips comes as one huge piece of beer battered fish and by the time you get to the end of it... It's soggy and cold. So I do really appreciate that Eva's serves you almost fish finger style fish n chips with a generous amount of tartar sauce. The only reason I docked a star is the chips were just okay and they served an insane amount of it... Most of the people, including me, ended up throwing at least a quarter of their chips in the trash. Wasting food really gets to me... So I hope they do a better job with their portions in the future.
Oh and yes it is overpriced... the food we had was good but not worth the price. But since they're the only joint on the island you really don't have much of a choice. Unless you bring a picnic with you to Governor's Island... Which is exactly what I plan on doing next time.
Lovely place for a bite, solid Mac n cheese. Solid menu for eating out at Governor’s Island. Expect to pay eating out prices; it’s midtown Manhattan price points but I didn’t expect different. Seems like a good spot for a drink and having a laugh.
Understandably expensive, but it's a lifesaver on a hot day. The food is good and the service was shockingly fast. A cold beer, good quality taco, and the kids were happy with the hot dog offering. It's mild downside is that it's priced in a way that reflects the lack of competition ($10 for a small can of Brooklyn is punchy by even NYC standards), but the food was good quality.
