I am new to woodworking and learning on my own as a hobby the ins, outs, and lingo of the trade. At first, yes I felt slightly disrespected and the attitude was not the best. However, once I set-up an appointment and spent time there the staff was way more friendly. Maryanne and Gene were extremely helpful with figuring out exactly what I needed and the dimensions. They actually saved me a huge amount of money by steering me away from the bigger cuts and using dimensions that were more suited to my project. I would return with another order in a heart beat.
Finally found a great source for lumber. I went unintentionally when they were closed for Fourth of July. They still helped me to find some good pieces of walnut and maple. They could have just sent me away and said come back next week but instead they took their time with me. I look forward to going back for my next project. Great people, service and price. Thank you.
Great products! Tons of species of wood and they mill for reasonable prices. Some lumber can be a bit pricey. Most of the employees are friendly and very helpful but there are a few that are a bit abrasive....
Stopped in with a woodworking friend just to check out the lumber. They took their time to explain their products and that the main location was in White Plains. Best to phone ahead at the Stormville location and have them pick prior to your arrival since this isn't their main retail store location. Quite friendly and helpful for a couple of weekend woodworkers. Price list was available in the front office and we found out that they did carry baltic birch plywood (only place near me) plus stocked exotic lumber that you'd not find anywhere else that's not a long drive.
Best wood, best selection, they have stuff you'll never see at a normal yard. Riftsawn fir, African mahogany, European Birch Ply, you name it. They do a nice job if you need milling on stuff too, for a reasonable price. Staff could be a lot nicer. But it's a lumberyard not a fancy restaurant.
