7 Years in Taekwondo and I’ve Never Trained Under a Master Like Master Kim

I’m a 1st Dan black belt with about 7 years of Taekwondo experience, and I can honestly say Master Kim is unlike any instructor I’ve ever trained under. I’ve been part of other schools before, but what Master Kim does at YK Pro Taekwondo Academy is something truly special.

Even though I’ve only been with him for 2 months, the growth I’ve experienced mentally, physically, and technically has been unmatched. Master Kim doesn’t care about rushing belt tests, packing classes, or making money off students. He cares about real Taekwondo quality, respect, discipline, and personal development.

He’s not only an incredible instructor — Master Kim is also an international referee and a master of many national championships, with decades of experience and high-level recognition. But what’s even more impressive is his heart. He treats every student like family and gives 100% to every class, every time.

There are no long-term contracts here. If a student ever chooses to leave, they can do so by simply paying a small exit fee. But Master Kim is so confident in the quality of his instruction, he knows students won’t want to go and he’s right. Once you experience his teaching, you realize there’s no comparison.

What truly shows his character is how much he supports his students beyond the dojang. Inside the school, he proudly displays the college flags of former students who have gone off to pursue higher education, and some have even started Taekwondo clubs on their college campuses because of the inspiration he gave them. That’s the kind of legacy Master Kim builds one that lasts far beyond kicking and forms.

I was lucky enough to find YK Taekwondo Academy last year. The dojang is located in an excellent location, near a dance school, DD, and Pete the Greek. It is new and clean. Master Kim is an extremely experienced and well-known TKD instructor and knows how to keep the kids engaged in the sport. Not only is this authentic, very high level Taekwondo, but the instructor is gifted. It is not easy to teach children, but he has a special gift.
