I came to Dr. Joe Camisa for herniated disc and hip flexor issues after exhausting eight months of other treatments, from conventional physical therapy to epidural injections. Faced with the last resort option of a microdiscectomy, I researched the surgery and stumbled upon Dr. McGill’s book, The Back Mechanic. After learning about the McGill method, I searched for Master Clinicians and was thrilled to find Dr. Joe locally.

When I first visited Dr. Joe, I would describe my pain as 6-7 on a scale of 10 during day time, pain during sleep was excruciating, and normal tasks like tying my shoelaces were difficult. I could barely stand on the train for more than two minutes, and walking for more than ten minutes was impossible. My core strength was nonexistent — I couldn't do a single glute bridge or even hold a knee-assisted side plank for two seconds. Dr. Joe invested significant time in educating me on proper movement patterns and spine hygiene. He taught me customized core exercises and utilized a variety of techniques like dry needling and Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM), all of which significantly improved my condition. Today, I maintain good spine hygiene, and my pain is mostly gone, rating 0–1 out of 10 during normal activities.. I have no pain during sleep. I can walk for over 45 mins without pain and the standing pain has gone as well.

Dr. Joe excels at communicating the root cause of my condition and what it takes for both short term relief and long term recovery. What I appreciate most is that he doesn't sugarcoat the process or set false expectations. He is clear that adopting discipline and good movement patterns is a necessary lifestyle change to prevent future disc issues.

The exercises that Dr. Joe customzied for me complemented the treatments very well. The dry needling treatments helped me get better at the core exercies which in turn helped me improve my tolerance for day to day activities. My goal is to be able to go back to swimming and sports. While my daily life is pain free, I am not there yet to be able to go back to those activities. Dr. Joe has provided good advice on not rushing back to things without the required healing and strengthening. He has customized exercises and I am continuing to work with him closely to get ready for recreational sports.

Beyond just eliminating my pain, Dr. Joe has equipped me with invaluable knowledge about spine hygiene and proper movement, giving me the tools to manage accidental missteps and bumps along the way. I'm grateful to Dr. Joe for helping me find relief from my miserable pain. A special shout-out to his team member Hannah, who goes above and beyond to ensure I perform every exercise with proper form.

I came to Camisa Physical Therapy for chronic lower back pain, and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Dr. Joe is not only extremely knowledgeable but also clearly passionate about learning new techniques. The dry needling and movement work have really helped, and I appreciate how professional and genuinely caring he is every session.

If you’re looking for a small practice where the doctor of physical therapy spends a minimum of 30 minutes one on one with each patient, then this is the place to go. Dr. Joe Camisa is a skilled and caring McGill Master Clinician who spends quality time with each patient every session. After going to many physical therapists throughout the years, and still dealing with back pain, I discovered Camisa Physical Therapy. Dr Joe did a lengthy and painstakingly thorough initial mechanical assessment identifying pain triggers in my thoracic and lumbar spine, even evaluating my movement and gait. Using his extensive knowledge of anatomy and McGill techniques, he designed specific exercises to treat the cause of my pain and prevent reoccurrence. He taught me how to stabilize my spine through exercises that strengthened the deep muscles in my back. This is not your average PT practice. Physical Therapy isn’t just a job for Dr Joe, it’s his passion and it shows in the way he treats all of his patients.

Joe Camisa – Master Clinician & Expert in Complex Cases - I’m currently using his expertise for my adductor tear which is extremely complicated. I saw him for a session last week.

Joe Camisa is truly a master back clinician and physical therapist, with an unmatched expertise in handling the most complicated and stubborn musculoskeletal cases. His deep understanding of neurodynamics, soft tissue therapy, and integrated body systems is exceptional, making him my go-to resource for challenging patient presentations involving the neck, shoulder, back, hip, knee, ankle, and foot.

I regularly consult with Joe, bouncing ideas off of him to refine my own practice. His insight consistently elevates my clinical reasoning, and I confidently refer patients to him—especially for advanced techniques like dry needling and microcurrent therapy, where his skill set goes far beyond what most clinicians can offer.

Joe is not only clinically brilliant, but also someone I personally trust with my own injuries—and I’m extremely selective about who I even discuss my medical history with. His wisdom, diagnostic precision, and observational skills are truly off the charts.

What sets Joe even further apart is the depth of his professional network. He’s deeply connected with a wide range of top-tier clinicians, coaches, and specialists, and if there’s ever a case outside his scope, he knows exactly who to collaborate with to ensure the patient gets the best possible outcome. His collaborative approach is rooted in humility, clarity, and a genuine desire to help people heal.

If you’re dealing with a complex or chronic condition and haven’t found answers elsewhere, Joe Camisa is the clinician you want on your side.
