I’ve been going to this dojo for a little over 6 months now. It started out as taking one self defense class for fun and curiosity’s sake, and has now turned into what I hope will be a life-long discipline.

I am a student of Ms. Borland’s class but have also attended many of Mr. Borland’s classes as well, and they both have a style of teaching that allows you to weave the applications of Karate into almost every aspect of your life. Yes, you do learn moves that you can use to defend yourself and how to strike if absolutely necessary—but you also learn about the art form, the history, the culture from which this style of karate stems from. You learn to develop your accountability and self-discipline, in an environment that promotes universal respect, diversity and learning from your mistakes. The only thing anyone here cares about, from what I’ve seen, is that you have an interest in Karate. I say I’m a student of the Borlands, but everyone has been a teacher in this dojo. From the lowest to the highest rank. I haven’t been to the other dojos but have met some from New Paltz and East Fishkill and Brooklyn, all who emanate the same energy.

It’s not just about getting a black belt, but understanding what it takes to get to that point, and incorporating those lessons not just in martial arts, but in your life as well.

Always a pleasant experience. We began going there when my daughter was 5- she’s 9 now and brought her brother and sister as well. They work well with children with needs (my kids) they help them 1 on 1 which some definitely need. It’s just been good. Little pricey but good hahah

My daughter has been attending karate classes for only a month but she absolutely loves it! All of her instructors are fabulous! They are all supportive and meet her at her current level of ability. Classes are fun and she is learning so much already! She loves attending classes and would probably go every day if we could fit it in our schedule!!

Great environment and phenomenal staff!! Our daughter has been enrolled over a year and absolutely loves the Dojo. Not only do they provide a great environment for learning the art of Japanese karate they also promote a lot of wholesome community involvement. Definitely 2 kicks up!

I am both a senior instructor at the school and a parent of a student. I know first hand that the instructors are focused on the personal growth of every child and adult student that they work with. This is a supportive community that helps everyone reach there personal goals, whether that’s physical fitness, confidence or focus. Join us! You’ll be glad you did.
