The grounds are clean and beautiful. The docks and brush are well kept. The people that work there are helpful. Watch Hill is a great campsite. There's so much to do and it's just beautiful. We'd recommend for couples, families, groups etc
Absolutely beautiful, especially at sunset. The bar serves food and drinks at reasonable prices and the beaches are well-maintained. My only warning, I have NEVER seen so many mosquitos in my life, nor been bitten so many times in one trip. They gather around you in high numbers and are aggressive. I was bitten something like twenty times in just the walk from the ferry to the beach. I know this is not in the Park's control but I feel it's important to note as part of the review.
I did not anticipate the need for it because it's never been so bad at other beaches and this was my first time here, but bring a few cans of Off or something and maybe it'll help. Hopefully I have enough Cortisone at home to help me through this! Unfortunately, since bug spray has never done much for me in the past I probably will not be returning. But I'm glad I came!
We spent the last week of summer here on our boat. We arrived late due to electric issues, upon arrival we discovered our power converter did not match theirs and because we were so late the dock master & store was closed. We called the number posted at the dockmaster station and explained to John our dilemma. John called all the boat owners who were docked and hunted us down the correct converter for us to borrow for the night. He went above and beyond and did it happily! He kept calling to make sure we got it and it was working. If he had not done that we would have had to go back to our marina at 10pm with our 9 year old. He saved our first night. He stopped by everyday to check on us. I wish I could give more stars. THANK YOU JOHN! We appreciate you.
This area of Fire Island National Seashore is a wonderful place to spend the day or overnight. Quiet and peaceful and a wonderful walk along the marshes and the dunes and if you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of some wildlife like deer, birds, horseshoe crabs or snapping turtles
Phenomenal place to do wilderness backpacking. Just be ready for mosquitos, biting flies, ticks, poison ivy and relentless sun. Bring the gear to deal with it, and you are in paradise!!
