Deer Park is NOT closed, the access road and parking lot off 517 near Mattars is.
Parking is across from Panther Valley mall in a new lot, or further down 517 near the Allamuchy Pond and school area, or along Waterloo Road (Orange trail climb). NJ DEP's lack of advertising does not help the parks.

A simple and straightforward hike; a less popular part of Allamuchy Mountain State Park. Good for avoiding crowds of people lol. The pond is nice. White trail and yellow trails are narrow and sometimes thorny plants get in the way, but once you hit blue, nice and wide open trails.

So Allamuchy mountain state park is a beautiful place. The issue I have is that the trails aren't in the greatest shape. If you dont mind tall grass and a bit of overgrowth go and enjoy. We love this area and just wish it was better maintained. So much history as well.

It's a good place to hike. Went there once only, but I will admit it is somewhat confusing about what trails lead to what. There needs to be more clarity. Besides that, nice view especially when going to see the giant lake

Adventurous!!! If you love a quick and easy hike with your kids or a pet, this is the place to go. I have a 11 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback who need to let out some energy and this place did the trick. Think it's going to be way to rocky? Think again, you have the option. One trail is gravel and great for jogging and biking. The other is a good hike with some mini-mountians for a great workout! Definitely coming here every week!
