Very well presented exhibits covering the history of the town and the Roebling Company. Highly recommend.
I know it's much better than my underwhelming pictures convey, but I never seem to be able to get here when it's open. And honestly, they need to do a better job with the static displays within their fence line. A rusted out switcher engine and a god-knows-what late model machine a-go-go ain't cutting it. Yes, factory wheel and slag buckets are great, but come on, there has to be better machinery that can be displayed out there. Ah hell, maybe I'm just running my mouth. I love Roebling and everything he and his boys did. So here's some so-so photos I managed to take through the fences after hours. Enjoy. I guess.
Total last minute side trip. We saw the sign for the museum in the highway and decided to take a detour. This is a lovely gem of a museum with great staff, informative displays and a movie to tie all the personal stories together. Don't miss the exterior displays. We didn't get to join the walking tour of the town but will definitely be back!
Stop by here because I saw a documentary on the History channel about this company. They built in their hey day The Brooklyn bridge, The George Washington bridge, The Golden gate bridge and many more. We started off watching in 18 minute video of the history of the family and their company and then walk through a bunch of exhibits that were very educational and very cool. It's not a big museum but they pack a lot in. They are definitely at work to visit if you're a history buff or into engineering or if you just want to learn something
What. A. Spectacular. Museum. George Ott was a hell of a tour guide. My only suggestion for the museum is to shorten the movie or play it at 1.15 speed. The interior of the museum is so well kept. Every area was clean and showed the exhibits with the dignity they deserve. I enjoyed my 2.5 hours here. Can't wait to go back with another history buff. Parking is convenient. Listen to the tour guide. Intently. It's incredible how this site was responsible for so much. And yes - the original cables on the George Washington Bridge are still in use and still MADE IN NEW JERSEY !!! 🌉 Go visit the Roebling Museum.
