Our mother joined the Andrus on the Hudson community in January of 2023 and lived there the last 16 months of her life. The community was supportive of her needs, including a special diet ( with daily ice cream or pudding) and our specific requests. She was not hospitalized even once while she was a resident . We liked that an order of nuns trusted the Andrus to take care of their sisters. We are Jewish and appreciated that the Andrus welcomed Chabad rabbis for special holiday programing. It was also a delight to be greeted by Robert, Sheri, Alexandra and the rest of the staff .

My mom came to Andrus directly from the County Hospital after a fall where she broke her clavicle and suffered a brain injury. First and foremost, ALL the staff at Andrus are wonderful!! Starting with Norma in Admissions who is extraordinary and juggled everything to get my mom admitted, dealing also with insurance issues for me, and coordinated all the paper work, to mom’s Social Worker, Meaghan who was a huge source of information, comfort and guidance for me. Mom was designated a Concierge Patient representative, Alexandria, who was so incredibly warm and kind and gentle with my mom. She assisted mom when she first arrived as well as helped me get acclimated. She also helped my mom pack and transfer to the Assisted Living Community when she discharged from Andrus.
The PT and OT staff and doctors are fantastic!! Not only are they extremely skilled clinically, they are unbelievably patient and kind!! My mom’s walking and coordination and strength improved so much while she was there The food service staff were very kind too. The only criticism I have is the RN staffing level - which is an epidemic everywhere I feel. It would be great if there were a few more available RNs to dispense meds and some additional aids for when patients need to be assisted to the bathroom. That’s an issue practically everywhere in healthcare today so I understand that Andrus has the same struggle.

My Dad has been to this facility a few times. Everyone has always been kind to my Dad. They see him in the hallway . They greet him by name. I would always visit after work and although in my opinion they are very short staffed - the employees are always working hard caring for the needs of the patients. One employee stands out in my mind. Her name is Jackson. She always would greet you with a friendly smile, she always spoke softly to my Dad and even when she wasn’t the aide taking care of him . She would always see no matter how busy she was if he needed anything. Maybe when hiring your staff you have them train with Jackson to teach staff compassion and patience . This is an extremely hard job - hopefully everyone is as appreciative as we are.
We also had a great experience with Penny who is always kind and is very caring to the patient as well.

More staff is clearly needed in my opinion -

My father spent a few weeks at Andrus. Despite the attempts at rehab his pneumonia did not go away and sadly he passed. The staff at Andrus are very hardworking, kind and compassionate people. There were many who went above and beyond for my father and our family and personally reached out to give us their condolences when they found out my father had passed. I thought the room was cozy and clean. The room had a recliner so you could comfortably visit with your family member anytime. The food was good and they were accommodating if you requested something. The food was provided consistently at the same time each day. They have a nice area for physical therapy. That being said, I did observe a shortage of staff. While those who are working are doing the best they can, the response times varied especially in the evening. My family and I were there everyday and all day which helped tremendously when we needed to follow up on an item or find assistance. I say this with the understanding that staffing issues are not unique at Andrus as it exists across the healthcare industry. I sent feedback to management and they responded right away and were open to hearing the feedback and advised me they recently hired a new nursing director to address the staffing issues and also ensure protocols are strictly followed such as ensuring nursing staff are reviewing notes to fully understand what the medical issues are that the patients are experiencing so efforts seem to be underway to address. I really appreciated the quick response from management as well as the care that the staff took of my father while he was there. Overall, I would recommend Andrus as well as suggest visiting often.

With my mom’s okay, we moved her from a care facility out in the Hamptons to Andrus so she can be closer to family. In the month since she has arrived we have seen improvements in her strength, eating, engagement and communication. The facility is beautiful as are the grounds , right on the Hudson River. Things are kept clean and staff is approachable and kind. My mom has been doing PT and OT and she has visible improvement that is just beautiful. All the therapists are encouraging, careful and upbeat. The head nurse on my mom’s case talks about learning her wants and needs, not just physical necessities. I got a call from Mom this morning letting me know her aide is so kind and gentle and it made her so happy, she was able to feed herself her entire meal for the first time in ages!!!. As a daughter I am thrilled that we found Andrus and my mom is benefiting from their high professional standards and kind, warm, open approach.
