If you enjoy urban exploration this spot is worth checking out. By the Bay, you get different scenery in all one place. From waterfront to abandoned building it is fun

Decided to see one of my favorite spots in the winter. I didn't dress well enough so I gave up after an hour. I wanted to see birds. I only saw some sort of goose

The abandoned psychiatric hospital grounds are just awesome.
I love that kind of thing, but, it is sad that it all could not have been repurposed into one of many things. I understand that there are sometimes insurmountable barriers to reusing old buildings, but it's a sad commentary on it society that we tend to throw away rather than try to claim and use things that already exist.
Regardless, while still being very safe, a person can get right to to the buildings and glimpses inside. It's a study in vandalism and intrusion (breaking in) and the efforts to prevent that.
I'd love to learn more about the place and explore more.

In previous visits of this park I spent time hiking northern section of the park along Nissequogue River up to LI Sound. River views are beautiful any time of the year. This time I have explored southern section of the park checking out ruins of psychiatric hospital along Kings Park Blvd. Most buildings are in such dilapidated and vandalized state beyond restoration, that it is not clear why they weren’t demolished (at least below St Johnland Rd). This state park has huge unrealized recreational potential, it could fit several new trails in southern section.
