I started learning piano here in my mid 20's and have been going for years. I have had three amazing teachers and the owner Diane is always very accommodating when I have to switch my schedule around (which is often). Highly recommend. It's never too late to learn
Our 11- year old son has been taking piano lessons for approximately one year now with The Piano Studio. He truly enjoys his 30-minute music lessons with Patrick at the Smithtown location. Sometimes we go in-person, but mostly, we do virtual lessons. Plus, having the option to do virtual lessons has proven to be very convenient for us! Patrick is so nice, so friendly and professional. He has an ease about him that seems to connect with our son - instructing music, some light chatting and fun learning! We look forward to each week's lesson! Thank you Piano Studio!
best piano place ever... my son went here now my daughter for many years we have been coming.
then we started virtual....we love it...
My son really enjoyed the lessons here, but had to rate the experience 3/5 bc on 1-occasion the staff left him waiting outside, during his scheduled time slot (which is not supposed to happen as they’re assigned by package). As a consolation for the mishap we received 2-additional lessons, which was not completely honored and they terminated his time slot w/o notice.
This is why I love groupon, it allowed us to trial a membership before making a commitment. Not worth the non-discounted rate. I advise parents to set clear expectations with dates & times. We would’ve really liked this studio, if they kept to their word.
My children started piano lessons at the Greenlawn location last fall. Their first teacher, Emika, was not very patient (I am putting this mildly), and instead of showing them how to figure out the notes when they started new pieces, she would speak very impatiently and rudely and say, “What note is that?!? Don’t look at me! Look at the notes!” (The school has cameras with sounds so parents can watch and listen from another room during the lessons). I mean, isn’t a teacher supposed to TEACH and SHOW a student how to do something? If I wanted my children to figure things out on their own, I wouldn’t be paying for lessons, would I??? I was hoping this was just a one time thing, but this type of attitude happened consistently every week. I wanted to say something to Emika but I kept biting my tongue, as I wanted to give her a chance to show a nice side, a more patient side...hoping she would actually try to TEACH them. Every Tuesday my children would become increasingly hesitant to go to their lessons. My husband and I both felt that her teaching methods were...unprofessional...and we did not want either of our children to become turned off from piano just because of one lousy teacher. Finally, we asked the owner, Diane, if we could switch teachers and she was nice enough to accommodate us. Their second teacher, Marisol, was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of the first one. Marisol was always smiling, and extremely patient with my children. (Side note: they were/are only 6 and 7, and had almost one year of previous piano lesson experience, so it’s not like they were totally clueless, but were just a little rusty because they had taken a break for a few months before we moved to the area and started lessons again). Marisol would take the last 5-10 minutes to play games with my son in order to help him remember the notes and she was always so positive! Sadly, Marisol had to move out of NY, so their next and current teacher is John. At first my children were really sad about Marisol leaving, but they quickly got used to John because he was/is also extremely patient and kind and you can tell he loves music and is really good with children. He also helped my children if they were stuck on any notes (instead of sitting there demanding that they figure the notes out on their own, like the first teacher did!) and made recommendations to use music flash cards at home, etc. He always is very friendly and encouraging! They look forward to their lessons with him every Wednesday. My children participated in their first piano recital this past spring under John, and it was a great experience for them. The owner, Diane, organized the event very well, and I felt like each and every participant was made to feel special. I would have rated the school higher had it not been for the actions of the first teacher they had (and I am an elementary school teacher so I know that teaching little children isn’t easy, but honestly, my own children are well behaved. It’s not like they ran around and screamed, or didn’t pay attention during lessons! They don’t have focusing issues nor are disrespectful. They were simply rusty and weren’t able to recognize certain notes and were berated for that! What kind of teacher has an attitude of, “figure it out yourself while I just sit here!” Their first one did!). Thank goodness for Diane, Marisol and John. They are what makes this school a great music school.
