I went to Dr. Vemulapalli with high psa scores (not good). He did a biopsy and found aggressive cancer. Unfortunately this was this spring when Covid started coming around. He recommended surgery but also refereed me to another doctor to check options. He did not pressure me, but let me review alternatives. As it turned out I became well informed about my disease and opted for the surgery. Dr. V did an excellent job and I am healing very well. It is a shame he works thru St. Lukes in Newburgh. Otherwise a great doctor that explains everything.
Let me start by saying that Dr. V is an excellent doctor. No complaints on that front.
The issue is trying to get to see Dr. V. The people of Premier Medical Group who answer the phones and book the appointments are simply not helpful and their professionalism leaves much to be desired. Long waits on hold, long waits to get appointments with Dr. V, and long waits in the waiting room. I've found several of them to be condescending and uncaring, with a take it or leave it attitude.
I've decided to leave it. I've been a patient of Dr. V for many years, but I am changing doctors because I simply can't ever get an appointment when it's convenient for me. And to be clear, I don't call and expect a same day or next day appointment. Since the start of 2019, I have called four separate times to seek appointments weeks in advance on days when I knew I would be off from work. I could never get an appointment on a day when I would be able to make it. So now I have a new doctor.
I recommend Dr. V, if you can get to see him. I do not recommend his scheduling staff, as they are unhelpful and unprofessional.
Doctor V is amazing. I just had surgery with him. He explains everything very clearly to his patients. He even drew the problem for me and my parents and even showed us the CT scan images and explained everything in detail. He was very open to answer any and all questions and was very sympathetic. I highly recommend him even the post OP nurse was impressed when she saw he pulled up the images on one of the computers to explain the situation in detail to my parents and me.
