Dr. Matthew Pagano is a knowledgeable and competent Urologist. In addition, he is sincere, caring, compassionate, and has the ability to listen to the patient. If most doctors had a fraction of his listening ability, the world would be a better place.

My husband Shri saw Dr. Pagano in July 2023 for difficulty in voiding which he developed after a TURP procedure elsewhere earlier in March 2023. Our urologists at the time believed that the symptoms were from a combination of a urethral stricture and a weak bladder and offered to teach us bladder catheterization. Only one urologist considered the possibility of a pure urethral stricture and recommended that we seek care from a reconstructive urologist. What we realized later was that there are very few reconstructive urologists and there was a long wait before Shri could be seen, his diagnosis remaining in limbo. We decided to get an appointment with a local urologist as we had moved to central New Jersey and were afraid of waiting endlessly while my husband struggled.

Dr Pagano diagnosed a severe urethral stricture listening to Shri’s history. He was confident in his diagnosis and quickly confirmed it with a cystoscopy. We are grateful to Dr. Pagano for not making us wait for the diagnosis. The date for cystoscopy we had received at a renowned institution in a neighboring state would have been fully 4 to 6 weeks later.

After the cystoscopy, while discussing the treatment options available, he listened very carefully and was not dismissive of our desires and reservations. He was quick to send us to a reconstructive urologist providing us with a name right in NJ. Fortunately for us, the specialist was able to accommodate us quickly. Our appointments with other specialists in the neighboring states were in late August and September. Shri was able to get a drug coated balloon dilatation of his urethral stricture soon thereafter and has been a happy person since then, thanks in large part to Dr. Pagano.
