I had interest in learning how to sew and found Old Spool Sewing Studio on a Google search. The positive feedback enticed me and after my intro class, I can say with full certainty that it is all well deserved.
Everyone here has such enthusiasm, knowledge and passion about their craft that it made learning how to sew that more enjoyable. All questions were answered and explained in such a detailed and fun manner that it made learning how to sew that much more fun!
It’s a wonderful place to learn and it’s an excellent place for all of your sewing needs. I cannot recommend it enough!
Took an intro to sowing class with Julia! It was amazing Saturday. The class taught me so much in really a pretty short amount of time because I think Julia is an awesome teacher! I got to learn a new skill and socialize with a lovely group of people. An excellent Saturday in my view!
Love everything about this place - the classes, the store, and most of all, the people! My daughter has been taking weekly classes at Old Spool for a year and also did one week of camp there over the summer. She has fallen in love with sewing and I am beyond impressed with what she has been able to make independently at 9 years old! She's made everything from tote bags to quilted pillows to skirts; she even made an adorable cupcake-shaped drawstring bag with a zipper. I took an intro to sewing class for adults, mainly to learn how to help my daughter at home, but I too fell in love with it and went back for a beginner class to make a zipper pouch. The instructors are incredibly skilled and helpful. They've answered my plethora of questions with patience, even helping walk me through projects over the phone. The shop is beautiful, with everything you could possibly need, at very reasonable prices. Thank you to Julia, Pat and the rest of the crew at Old Spool! We can't wait to take more classes with you!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Old Spool Sewing Studio! Over the last year I have taken three different classes, with a fourth qscheduled soon. Each class that I have taken has not only been extremely informative and helpful, but also VERY well organized and taught. Both Julia and Camille are very well educated in every area they are teaching. They are patient and kind to all beginners (which I have been in 3 of the classes I have taken). No question is a silly question and they're willing to show you a step as many times as you need with no judgement. The shop itself is very clean, organized, and stocked with all you need. I was very hesitant to start classes as a busy Mom but I'm SO happy I have! If you've been on the fence about starting, START!
My mom and I took the Beginning Sewing Class (Drawstring Bag) and we both feel so much more confident in moving forward with with a machine! The class covers threading the machine, basic operations, a sewing practice sheet, and then construction of a drawstring bag based on the skills covered. Instructor and owner Julia is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about sewing, machines, and much more beyond what is covered. Class teaching assistants were also very knowledgeable and friendly, you will never feel lost. For a class of 11 students, each was given individual attention.
We plan on taking more classes here! If you were on the fence, sign up its more than worth it!
(fabric quality is also AMAZING and so cute!)
