I can’t say enough wonderful things about Southern Ocean Center - Genesis Nursing Home!!
We moved our mom here on 9/9/25, and from the very beginning we've had such peace of mind knowing how well cared for she is. The staff is fabulous, caring, knowledgeable, and truly compassionate. Being out of state, it means everything to know she’s in such good hands.
I’m especially grateful for the kindness of Jeanette Vergara, Madison Margino, Patty Bennert, Greg Benitez, Dean, Beth, Arlo, Tammie, Tracey, Eno Asante, Jeanne, Maria, Shannon, Amanda, Zoe, Venice, Nicki, and Dr. Larkin. I know I’m likely missing others simply because I haven’t had direct contact with everyone, but I’m confident that every single person on the team has been wonderful. The entire staff listens, communicates, and treats residents with genuine respect and dignity.
The rooms and facility are immaculate and the meals are wonderful which says so much about the pride they take in their work and environment.
Choosing Southern Ocean Center was one of the best decisions we made for our mom. I’m incredibly thankful for this team and would highly recommend this facility to any family looking for exceptional care.
Wow, where do I begin? Was there in late June for 7 days. That was tolerable.Unfortunately I wound up spending 45 days there at the beginning of August. They were always understaffed, the food was terrible. The facility really needs to be updated. It has a 1980 decor. Room cleaning was sporadic. Some of the Nurses really cared, and a few of them seemed like they were there only for a paycheck. Covid also ran rampant during my stay. They did try and isolate it. But it kept spreading. The physical therapy people were great. And the social worker Venus was always very pleasant. The CNA’s seemed overwhelmed with patients, which should be addressed by the administration. Sometimes if you hit your call button you would wait an hour or more which is ridiculous. Even when you needed pain meds this occurred. If you’re only spending 7 to 10 days be prepared to have family bring you food. They sure could use an extra nurse on their shifts, and an extra CNA, but these places only care about their bottom line, which is $$$$ and greed!
My mother in law styed here for few weeks to get back on her feet. The interior and exterior are a little outdated and not maintained that well. The care seems good but they may be a bit understaffed. My mother in law needed extra wound care and it was not being addressed properly but when we made a complaint, they really sprang into action and took care of the issue well after that. Don't be afraid to complain if the service is not to your liking. They will do what they can right away to fix it if they can. Hospital bed in the room as adequate but very noisy when adjusting positions. There is an open quad area outside with a gazebo for smoking. The landscaping there had just been left to die back and fall over and there's an old plastic pond partially filed in with big rocks. But it's still a decent spot to spend some time outside when needed. The food was not good at all, apparently it's better at the hospital across the street, which I know was not good either. I would call Genesis a mixed bag. Good care as long as you stay on top of making sure it's up to par. Bare minimum as far as comforts go, but I see the care as the most important reason to be here anyway.
As I was reading, a line by Simon Sinek struck me deeply:
“Letting someone into an organization is like adopting a child and welcoming them into your home. These people will, like everyone else who lives there, have to share in the responsibility of looking after the household and the others who live in it.”
If you haven’t had the privilege of meeting the team at Southern Ocean Center, you are truly missing out on witnessing what great leadership and teamwork look like. From the Administrator to maintenance, every department functions together as one incredible family. And just like in a home, each member shares the responsibility of caring not only for the facility, but most importantly, for the patients who call it their home.
We invite you to tour with us, ask questions, and experience firsthand how much every staff member values both Southern Ocean and the people we serve.
For me, Southern Ocean Center will always be my first choice and I believe it should be yours too.
1st time here to see our Aunt. We were greeted with a friendly welcome at the front. The facilities were very inviting and clean. As we were walking to see our Aunt in her room the medical staff were also friendly. We are happy she came here to get the care she needs in her journey to getting well.
