We stayed for 7 days in September — our first time in the States and NYC. Couldn’t find a good price in Manhattan, so we tried this aparthotel. I was a bit worried at first, but honestly, I’m so glad we chose this over Manhattan.
The location is amazing: just steps from the subway, 5–10 minutes into Manhattan. The area was quiet and clean, with a 24/7 retro diner right across (we even caught some filming!), a bodega nearby, plenty of coffee shops, Target/Trader Joe’s, and halal carts within walking distance. Perfect for first-timers or anyone wanting convenience. Prices can rise during peak periods, but we got a great deal.
As an aparthotel, we didn’t really encounter staff in the building, but we noticed someone guarding the reception downstairs at all times if needed. Customer service before our stay was excellent — all our questions were answered promptly through the Sonder app.
The apartment itself was spacious, clean, and quiet — ideal for a couple. We loved the old-school minimal style. Amenities were perfect, with everything we needed, and if we ran short, we could restock using the cool cabinet in the lobby. The building is small and simple, and we had no issues.
We would stay here again and again if the price was right. If not, we’ll definitely choose a Sonder property elsewhere — it was an incredible stay.
Good stay in Sonder LIC, however I do think that it is quite expensive for the relatively simple apartment. I would suggest to add minor things like more overhead lights, hooks and racks in the bathroom, clothes racks, among others, to make a long-term stay more homey.
The location is very good as it is in front of Court Square Station (with several lines going into Manhattan and Queens) and a very busy Trader Joe’s.
There is no in-house laundry so folks staying for a while would have to look for another place to do their washing.
As the other reviews say, it can also be quite loud depending on where your room is located. I had some issues with the construction along Jackson Ave., the train, and the music from the bars that Sonder shares the building with. But they do provide earplugs so that was quite helpful.
The staff is also nice and friendly.
Overall, I am happy with my stay and I would come back because of its excellent location.
I stayed at Sonder Court Square LIC a few weeks ago for work. It's in a very convenient location right down the street from the subway and within walking distance of various markets and shops. I appreciated that!
Check in, however, was a challenge. I arrived right at check in time (with luggage and groceries for my stay, no less) and was told that my room wasn't ready yet. I told them the front desk attendants that this was unacceptable and that I had luggage and groceries with me and that I wanted to rest. They told me that they could offer me a late checkout for the trouble and I declined this offer. They told me that I could put my groceries in the staff fridge and go hang out in the area and that they would let me know when my room was ready. I told them that I would not be putting my groceries into a staff fridge and that they needed to find me a room to check into and that this was the only option.
Miraculously, a room opened up a few minutes later. When I got to the room, it was mostly clean. However, there were areas that were definitely missed (ie: crumbs around the stove and stray hairs in the restroom). Due to this experience, I wouldn't stay at Sonder LIC in the future unless I was in an absolutely pinch. It wasn't the worst experience, but it also wasn't the sort of experience that I want to replicate again right after getting off of a 3.5 hour train for a few days business travel.
As a first time visitor of NY, this was the best location to stay at because of its central location to each area. You can get right on the subway and travel in almost any direction. Manhattan, WTC memorial, Forest Hills, it's all about 20-25 min away from here.
The staff was awesome and on site most of the day. It made the whole trip very easy, so I won't stay anywhere else but here!
Very good hotel that is seamless. Despite it being fairly digital with your checkin and keypad to your room/suite there is generally also someone around to help you. The rooms are fully stocked so that you can live like a New Yorker and enjoy more than just a room. The location is great and you can reach Brooklyn, Manhattan or further into queens in under 30 minutes. The rooms are also sound proofed so despite the warnings for potential noise we didn't hear anything.
