my son and I took our boat to Harry after it overheated. There was no major damage, melted exhaust rubber boots. It took a few weeks to repair and after a week or so Harry quoted approximately $800 over the phone. There was a bad seal on the out drive which he repaired aswell. He rebuilt the small carburetor on our inboard outboard mercruiser 3.0 engine. He charged $500 for this. A brand new American made carburetor for this engine can be purchased for about $250 and can be put on in under a half hour. That would be at $150 an hour rate a total of $325. He looked over the whole boat and when asked how much he told us it was a whopping $2240. We had no idea it would be that high. The tail trailer lights were not working. We asked him to take a look but only repair if something simple. So it just needed bulbs which he didnt change but charged us 45 minutes at $150 an hour to tell us that. So $112.50 to tell us we need bulbs without even changing them. I objected and he did take this off the bill. We paid him $2000 and he informed us the alternater belt was loose and needed replacing and it squealed. For $2000 he didnt even do that and he had it 3 weeks. We felt a little ripped off but accepted it. While picking it up we asked for a quote for belt to be changed. He said $150. We had to take it back after a couple weeks because the belt was so loose it wasnt charging the battery properly due to slipping. We had another problem with slave solenoid not grounding and as a result not turning over. We took it back and figured for the belt and solenoid(I had put a new one on few weeks before and it worked but wasnt grounded properly) should be $300 to $400 max. He charged $760. This included two hours labor to change the belt and $56 for a new belt for a total of $356. I said you quoted $150 and I understand belt was $56 but double for labor?
That was just an estimate he said. again we felt ripped off but paid the money and after putting the boat back in the water I turned the key and the battery was completely dead. I was livid There was many boats behind us wanting to use the ramp and we was in the way. I called Harry kinda pissed off and he said did you turn the batteries on. This is our first boat and he knew this and he didnt turn the batteries back on or even tell us he had switched them off. This is a switch all the way in back of battery compartment and we were unaware it even had one. I was a lil pissed off on the phone and he started shouting its our fault for not knowing our own boat.He didnt turn the batteries off, or he turned them back on the last time we picked it up.
Im not saying hes a bad mechanic but in our opinion he overcharges.Hes in his sixties and probably works slow which hes charging $150 an hour for this. Its a small shop and he may not have all the equipment that a larger shop has so consequently labor most likelt takes longer which ends up on you. We will never use adventure marine and Harry again. The thing with the quote and especially with the batteries just was too much.
Had a check engine light come on in my 18ft bowrider. I called around to a few shops to get it looked at but every place I called said they couldn’t do it for at least 3-6 weeks.
I called here and Harry said to bring the boat in the following day. He connected his computer to the motor only to find out it wasn’t compatible but he gave me the number to another shop close by that was able to diagnose the issue and clear the code.
Harry also spent time with me answering boating questions and gave me some recommendations for maintenance. He didn’t charge me anything but was extremely helpful.
I went with The Garage due to Google reviews. I'm glad I did. They diagnosed my problem and did a great job fixing it. Hairy and John kept me informed every step of the way and answered all of my questions. COME HERE first if you’ll like your boat running like new I am thankful for choosing this spot I’ll give it two thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Harrie was an absolutely professional and extremely accommodating in allowing me to keep my broken down boat and trailer on his property for about 2 months until I found a solution for fixing the trailer to tow it away. If you’re looking for a trustworthy business for your boating needs then you can stop you’re search and choose Adventure International Marine
