I've been coming to Chatalbash Lessons to learn piano for the past 6 months now and I've been amazed by my progress. Sara is a fantastic teacher who works well with the variety of students she has.
I was skeptical of the lesson structure at first. At any given lesson time, there are usually 2-4 other students that Sara is also working with. This is part of her lab-based approach to teaching. I was worried that this structure would mean I wouldn't get the individual attention I thought I needed. Not only does it work, but I think it's perfect for the way I like to learn. Sara goes around to the different students, gives an introduction to whatever they are working on, and leaves them to play, practice and experiment on their own. She's always available during lessons to go over anything you might be struggling with, or to test if you're ready to move on to the next piece. I really appreciate this mix of guided instruction and independence to learn. She's also available anytime outside of lessons if you have questions while practicing at home. This helps ensure that you're not practicing something wrong. I've never had any issues getting in touch with her for extra help.
She also hosts two recitals a year where students perform a piece they picked out. I think performing is some of the most enjoyable aspects of playing music, and I know not all teachers can grant this important opportunity to their students. Adult learners (like myself) - don't feel intimidated to start learning from zero. Sara and the rest of her students are very supportive.
I think the pricing is very fair if you break down the payments by week, and compare them to the average cost of private music lessons around LI.
She offers a free introductory session to see if you enjoy her teaching style, so there's no pressure in at least giving her lessons a try. Considering the quality of instruction, her availability outside of lessons, and the recitals, I have no regrets about choosing to learn piano here.
My daughter has been taking lessons with Sara and it has been an absolute joy to watch her grow as a musician. Sara is incredibly talented, patient, and passionate about teaching. She makes learning fun while still challenging my daughter to improve each week. Her love for music truly inspires her students, and my daughter looks forward to every lesson. We are so grateful to have found such a wonderful teacher!
Starting lessons at Chatalbash was a bit different from other piano lessons I’ve taken before, there are multiple students in one lesson. At first I was skeptical, but it actually turned out to be a lot better than i expected! My teacher, Sara, was always able to come over and sort out mistakes and things I was iffy about when playing piano. And honestly, having a teacher constantly watch you play during a one on one lesson is pretty nerve wracking. Lab lessons make me more comfortable when the teacher is not constantly breathing on my neck, and I can learn and play at my own pace. Overall, it’s a really comfortable space and a fun learning experience at Chatalbash lessons, it’s honestly the best!

I have really enjoyed my lessons so far. Sara is a kind, knowledgeable, and uplifting teacher. The lessons in the “lab format” are very comfortable and motivating. This format allows me to practice and fine tune what I am practicing privately, but Sara is right there if I have questions. The energy in a room of multiple students is contagious. She comes to listen periodically and gives very specific and helpful feedback. I highly recommend taking lessons here.
Sara is an amazing piano teacher and a wonderful human being. Initially my 15 year old daughter wanted to learn piano and at the tryout with Sara I brought my youngest daughter who is 10 yr old there. After observing how Sara teaches and the atmosphere I decided to enroll both my daughters there and it was the best decision I made. My girls love going to their lessons and learned sooo much from the class in less than 6 months! Both my daughters are able to read notes and pick up songs and tunes on their own. I highly highly recommend!!!! 😊😊
