Terrible start bad directions from google map quest. if your going to whale lake its not correct i went their and down Victoria way to some cabins. you need to follow the Depot Hill rd since its at the very end of a dead end. up on that hill their is a white/ red blaze but so hard to follow and your bushwacking. no map at all and not marked well. best way is go down the back of the road following that blue blaze you come to two sections of the AT which is white either go north or south. if you go north sure it will come to cats rock and that area at some time i just did some of it out and back. either way its clear and a decent trail to follow

Tried to make it Morgan Stewart shelter but it got too dark. Had to pitch a tent in Depot Hill. When I woke up 3 in of snow had fallen.

This review is for Mt. Egbert, just west of Depot Hill Road on the Appalachian trail. I found this section of trail to be pleasant to walk. There is one viewpoint of note. We spotted one car on depot hill road and a second on Grape Hollow Road (by the intersection of Mountain top road). The one-way walk was 3.7 miles and took us 2 1/4 hours. It was a nice walk. The trail section is well maintained and there are no houses, road crossings etc so you really feel like you are deeper in the woods.
