Do not understand why it's so hard to find a good therapist in NYC. My therapist is the best. Got matched by Therapists of NY after a phone call and saw someone in Midtown and now in Brooklyn Heights. Grateful to have the time each week to... process life.
New to therapy, didnt know where to start. Liked that all therapists have PhDs, not sure if that makes a huge difference but I needed something to narrow down the options. The matching call was surprisingly normal. Not salesy—just a psychologist asking questions about what’s been feeling hard lately. She had two matches for me but the one I picked is incredible. She’s talks about psychodynamic stuff in a way that actually makes sense, and then somehow tie it back to my tendency to check work email in the middle of the night.
I also love that they take care of all the annoying parts with insurance forms- all managed. I put this off for years, called on a Thursday and had a first session on Monday. If you’re in Brooklyn Heights, I’d honestly just start here. I may also add on executive function coaching. I wish I’d found them sooner.
Tried to make it work with 3 therapists before I found Therapists of New York. They listened and made a personalized match. The therapist I’m with is in a whole other league - didn’t even know what was possible. It’s weirdly hard to find a therapist in NYC but there are great ones out there. Solid group, I’ve been impressed!
