Challenging hiking can be had taking the summit trail. Wear sturdy shoes as 99% of the trail is riddled with rocks and roots. The view from the top is mostly uphill and rugged. I wish they had removed some of the fallen trees, but at one point they painted a blaze on one of them! The view at the top is somewhat obscured by a treeline I wish they would trim. My girlfriend and I logged 4 miles getting to the top and back down. Beautiful scenery though!
Very nicely marked trails. Nice little cave on the other side of ghost lake. You do have to walk on a main road for a couple minutes to get to the trail. Sturdy boots are recommended as it is rocky. I did the summit Trail and there were a couple overlooks along the way.
Beautiful State Forest! Great hiking trails! I can't wait to come back again and go camping!
We had a great time camping and hiking to Ghost Lake here. Lots of caterpillars and inch worms to keep the children occupied. Got to see Mars and a few other stars at the observatory before the clouds rolled in. Witnessed a red tail hawk making a defending its nest just outside of our campsite. Park rangers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the forest.
Took a hike here for the first time. The trails are lovely and there are several scenic overlooks. The cabins and campsites look nice. I will be going back
